What's a good percentage for Search Engine traffic?

My domain has been active for 11 months, but a month ago I launched a new site on it.
Currently I'm getting 40% - 50% of my traffic from search engines.
Are those good percentages? 90% or more of my traffic is unique every day.
I'm pretty sure I saw something about unique traffic affecting your Pr.
Hoping to double my traffic within a week as I have been adding lots of content now that I finished the semester a few days ago.

How many visitors are you getting per day?

40-50% could mean 1 or 2 visitors if you get 4 visits per day, or 5,000 visitors if you get 10,000 a day.

    Unique traffic doesn't affect PR.

It depends on what kinda of site you are having if you are having a forum than search engine statistics doesn't count much but if you are having a blog search engine hits above 75% are always good..

It's a blog. I get most of my traffic (50%+) from backlinks. And I get around 1,000 hits a day.

500 visitors a day from the SE's is decent in most small niches.

If a niche received only 800 or odd queries a day, and you got 500 of them, you're definitely doing a good job.

Looking at % of overall traffic that comes from search engines is probably not a good measurement. You should be looking at actual numbers. Adwords campaigns, CPM ads, etc. can drastically affect the percentages of overall traffic, and would not necessarily mean you were doing better or worse. It's just a number but not actionable. You could be doing much words as SEO as far as rankings and traffic yet your percentage of overall traffic could go way up (making you THINK you're doing better) if overall traffic is down for the site. So it's very misleading.

Knowing that you were were averaging 300 visits per day two months ago as a result of natural search traffic and that you are now averaging 500 per day is much more telling. But even that can be misleading as far as your SEO efforts since there are a LOT of things outside of your control that can influence your traffic.

Also watching your rankings for targeted keyword phrases is important.

well, your blog is really doing a good job but there's room for improvement. usually for blogs the biggest traffic source is social bookmarking sites, are you utilizing them or not yet ?

Mine is about 80% traffic from Search Engine. This blog is only focused on certain niche and not personal blog.
My personal blog receive 60% type in and only 15% search engine.

    Different niche give different result

Higher the % of traffic from searches, the better you stand a chance of earning revenue from them as they are inherently organic in nature.

Not only good % of traffic, but also, if the content on your blog is good, the bounce rate would be less, which is a very important criteria for efficiently monetizing your efforts.

It's a strange question. Are you selling on your site? If so, what are you selling? Are you attracting the right customers? If so, I don't think it matters at all.

But from my experience, 50% SE traffic is pretty good :)

Absolutely does not matter, only conversions matter. However from a diversification standpoint it is much better if your traffic comes from as many sources as possible. When you do that, you also score Search Traffic because your site is viewed as being more relevant.

I know of a site in the Adult Niche that pulls 95% of it's traffic from other site referrals and it gets millions of hits a month. Kind of contradicts the statement I made above, but somehow they do not get search rank but they have tons of traffic.

Kind of have to pick your method, but relying on search is a bad idea.

I used to get 70% of my traffic from search engines and now it has dropped to 50% and I am not at all feeling good about it.

My sites that perform the best get between 85 and 90% of their traffic from the search engines. It seems like the more I try to get referral traffic by building back links the higher my search engine traffic rises. ;)

Wow, how are you getting so much traffic from back links? Please do share.

My primary blog has currently pulled 91.84% of it's traffic from search engines, 5.12% direct traffic, and 3.04% from referring sites. I have 86.73% new visitors. Wow, typing that right now just made me realize what I'm missing out on by not getting my visitors to come back!

Very nice looking blog, by the way!

I'd say you're getting pretty good traffic from Google, I wouldn't worry about the percentages so much.

I think its important to have a good mixture of sources of traffic, you never really want to rely on one source too much, you want people finding your site by more then just search engines. I think about 60-70% search engine traffic is optimal with the rest coming from blogs and forums.
