Whats a good design worth?? $1500?

So i have been talking to this guy and he says he can give me a great design and branding work for a flash site. He showed me some samples of sites of similar quality and i have been thinking about this for a while now.

now i trust the guy but im not sure the price is right for what he is offering, he says it will include the design, branding, and some banners for advertising for $1500

please let me know what you think?

 

Is this just the design and branding or the entire site? Also, if you are looking to have a big site which indexes well on Google, flash is NOT the way to go. It is okay to have some moving elements across the site but I recommend using gif's. Google and other search engines alike have a very hard time indexing flash sites accurately.

 

for something like the 2 sites you mentioned, $1500 is rather hefty. although, template monster's exclusive rights prices are around that price range.

Im pretty sure you can find someone who can do it for much cheaper if you look around, eg. odesk.com / freelancer.com ... with that said, it may be worth paying a little more for someone reliable.

 

I think $1500 for only design is wayyy too high. But, maybe some people dont think like that.

 

It depends on complexity of site but usually bigger web design companies charge more then small startup, "one-men" company.Are you getting more for your money that way. Sometimes yes, sometimes not. If your goal is to make profit from your "new" site, don't compromise. No room for error going with unreliable guys.
So, is it worth $1500? Yes, if you thinks so.

 

It looks like his services are worth $700 at most in my opinion. I mean they are nice websites but nothing that is really hard to do.

Seems overpriced, I'm sure a DP member could do far better and give you a better deal.

Hold up.

First I want to point out something. Who ever said that Google does not index flash very well does not know how to use flash. Flash is very indexable.

Second what kind of 'design' is it. Is there custom programming that you gave him, is there a custom niche with custom images that are needed... did you ask to have an all css, or tpl based layout... theres alot of things that hinder it.

You mentioned flash.. flash can be somewhat tricky to work with if you plan on putting scripts in with it. AS3 is a very tricky language now, as AS2 and AS3 don't play well you need to use a manpulator in the middle to help coax the other into doing what you want. I think 1500$ is a very respectable amount for the flash work if hes building a xml based site that has custom coding.

Now if its just an XML blog using flashy images etc, I say go to flashden.net and buy a design you like for like 30$ and reskin it.

If hes making something like 2advanced.net/.com and its a flash based service with custom interfaces resulting in a client side/server side manipulation, take 1500 and send it to him imo.

Of course, I am a web designer myself.. so I know the pain with working in flash sometimes.

Gotta admit that I agree with that. I wouldn't pay $1500 for a design.

If you feel comfortable with it and if you think the money paid will give you a return on the investment (at the very least with time saved from you doing it yourself) go for it.

 

I also agree with yo guys, for SEO web site based on flash is not recommended although that guy who create it know how the SEO trick for web based flash.

IMHO for price I think it's fair as long as you will get a result that you expected and his work deliver a very positive impact to your business. Also a real designing is involve many factor as research etc.

And maybe if you have take a look at my portfolio you will see some bad or some good design (every people have their own perception)...and you won't believe the price for that.. cheaper is not mean bad and expensive not mean good. vice versa.

I'm not say this because I'm a web designer, but every clients and industries have their own standard. Price is not a limit for satisfaction. The point is you must get a design that can well communicate with your needs and you satisfy for that.

You will probably be able to find someone who could do a very similar job for less but if you know this guy and know he will work with you to get it right then $1,500 isn't to bad.

For that money I'd expect to be able to go back to him several times during the design process to get things changed until it is perfect.

If you haven't already you might want to check if by design he literally means design only and not the underlying code. I know a number of people who have paid for designs expecting to get a site they can upload and go with but all the get is a photoshop PSD file.

The design i want includes codeing and everything and i want it to look good. This website would be a hosting site which has been running for 6 months now and i am the type of person who will sit there and question my design constantly and i have already spent hours of my own time and hundreds of dollars on my own design, and just redoing stuff and touching stuff up. I myself provide basic html and ecommerce sites so i know a little about stuff like this, but i wouldn't call the quality of my work that great

Also, the design i have needs to be integrated with whmcs, this is where i am worried with the whole flash thing. And i also provide live support using livezilla, how easy is that to integrate. I have asked the designer of course and he assures me it can be done, but never goes into details, so i want a second opinion.

I am not sure i will get this design, we will see.
