Hi, new to this forum as just started using ad words for marketing my website. I am getting about a 1% click through rate v ad impressions so wondered if this was about normal or not so good. If so any advice on improving click throughs. About half my key words have not so far generated any ad impressions but only going 24 hours and a very modest budget. Can any one point me in the right direction to improve my natural search as I dont appear on Google using the same keywords currently, or if I do not very high. Is this to do with being indexed? best wishes Zinc
Hi there, Welcome to the forums. Asking what is a good click through rate is like asking how long a piece of string is! It really depends on the industry, though as an Adwords account manager having dealt with many different industries, I'd say 1% is pretty low and you could do a lot better. In regard to natural or organic search listings, yes this is do with indexing and SEO which is another subject altogether, it might even have its own forum.
CTR is irrelevant in a lot of cases.. Take the 2 Ads in the same Adgroup (both have had equal impressions): Ad1 === CTR: 0.76% Average CPC: 0.32 Conversions: 23 Cost Per Conversion: 1.88 Ad2 === CTR: 2.77% Average CPC: 0.22 Conversions 16 Cost Per Conversion: 3.22 Which is the better Ad? Which Ad would you drop? The better ad for me is Ad2, yet it has a lower CTR. Of course if you are testing 2 ads and the ROI/Conversion data is the same, then CTR is more important, but it's not always a case of the higher CTR Ad is the better Ad. A high CTR can appear as good, but in reality it's just bringing in 'curious clickers' - people who haven't been 'pre qualified' and are just clicking anyway. As a side note, if an ad has had more than 150 impressions without a single click (search network) things often need changing, as the Ad just isn't working. Position should also be taken into account here but you'd expect at least 1 click after being viewed 150 times.
Howdy, In general I would consider less than 1% quite poor, but it depends on so many factors. I guess I'm going to ask if you're looking at search and content networks, or just search? If it's search and content combined, it's impossible to make a call. There is a lot of discussion out and about about how to improve your adwords results. Where we don't know what the specifics of your site, industry and campaign are, all we can offer is general advice.
