Just want to know What you hate in Contest starter?

1- I personally think that most of the contest starters are not responsive. They give work and disappear. Atleast they should post their views about the entries.
2- They want amazinng designs and want to pay less.

    What you dont like?

we need to make a thread about how to hold a successful contest...

The minimum price for a logo should be $50
feedback should be given to each logo entry
the winner should be announced when they say they'll announce it
none of this $1 to guess my number contest crap

As someone that has just been thinking about starting a contest for a new header image for a Wordpress theme, I am curious to hear from you guys that are actually creating the images.

    1. What is a realistic price?
    2. What kind of timeline/deadline is realistic/preferred?
    3. What is preferred method of payment? (Assume Paypal)
    4. What format is the image provided in?
    5. Do you supply source PSD file if creating with Photoshop?
    6. What are the permissions/rights on the winning image/logo?

    Thanks,
    -mnc

I avoid all contest projects because most of the time contest starters disappear or take ages before updated their own contest status.

    1) for a header? $25 probably for most designers
    2) I wouldn't hold a contest with a length of over 4 or 5 days, people lose interest quickly unless you provide quick and constructive feedback
    3) paypal
    4) jpeg and psd usually
    5) yes
    6) contest holder retains all rights to the image he selects as winner

I completely agree! I think that users should have a specific post count and reputation before being able to post contests. I also agree that "constructive" feedback should be given for EVERY entry.

And also .. This $1 GUESS MY FREAKIN STUPID NUMBER crap has got to go off of these forums... Its pointless, ridiculous, and makes this place look unprofessional.. IMO

Thanks for the feedback, I think I will be posting a new contest shortly to see if I can get something for a site.

There should be a $5-10 fee to list a contest.

I disagree with most of you on several notes.

    1) A lot of new and upcoming websites that are run don't have a lot of money to work off of, and the depth of the project may vary. You can't go to a grocery store and compare apples to oranges because they are both fruits. The contest holders try to pick prizes that fit within their budget and are worthwhile. Professional companies might spend a few hours, and want $100+ for their work, maybe at $20/hr. some designs that are posted only take 10 minutes from what I have seen, and it is pathetic. I am happy if I put two hours into a design, and am rewarded $20 or $10/hr. for me it is a lot more than my weekend job. If you are expecting a professional salary or payment...join a professional graphic design team.

    2) Contest holders shouldn't have to pay a listing fee for a job on a forum post, it is ridiculious. Some contest holders need a rush job at a fair rate, so they will join forums like DP, and want to hold a contest. They shouldn't have to accumulate more than they have to already. I don't feel that anybody has to prove themselves to me. The only thing I ask for is constructive criticism and I might research the contest holder's details to see if I feel the contest is legit.
