I remember the first time I used the internet - it was in 1995 at a university. Didn't have a clue what I was doing. I kept typing search terms into the URL bar. I must have been using one of the first versions of Netscape I guess - I didn't like it, and it didn't like me So when was the first time you used the internet? ---
I was using the internet pre-Netscape. It's amazing to think about what a short time ago that really was. The internet back then was so terrible. Everything was really slow, and there wasn't much to do. Still, I remember being impressed with it, because prior to that the fax machine had been the most impressive piece of communication technology.
A friend of mine used to dial up to BBSs and go on and on about how cool it was. I wish I had have been paying more attention in the early late 80s/early 90s when it was all kicking off. My poor little Mac SE never made it online
I remember chatting with this girl when I was like... 12 or 13. So about 10 years ago. But I was pretty much disconnected from the net since then. Only got back on about 3 or 4 years ago.
I used it first in 1999.. used it to send an email from a netcafe over here... at that time, the hourly rate of net cafe's used to be Rs 150-200 (on Dial up) and it was very difficult to find one.. nowadays the rates are like 5-10 Rs / hour (that too on broadband). Don't think anything had grown at such a pace then internet n google..
First time I used internet in 1998 in an internet cafe. A friend took me with him to Internet cafe and he spent two hours chatting on MIRC and browsing some websites and I only thought that how cool this internet is.. I got internet on my home PC in mid 1999.
Back in 1994 I was 14 and I used FTP to reach a amug usergroup to get a file for my mac via an online BBS called the OutPost in my local town. The rest is history.
The first time I used it was in 2001. I am from Iraq and Saddam did not allow us to be online before then. It was the only ''internet center'' in my city and I was so excited, because I had read about it a lot before and was dreaming of being in touch with the ''outside world'' by chatting, checking out websites, etc. The best part is, I ran across a page that had one of those ''you are visitor number 1000000 and you just won a million gazillion dollars'' banners. The ''prize'' was $10000 (a huge amount in Saddam's Iraq, especially for a 13-year-old.) I thought it was my lucky day: Going online for the first time and winning 10000 bucks! Well, it was not. I ended up making an international call to ''claim my prize'' and losing the money I had for the whole week LOL. Amazing how things change so fast in just a few years...
I started using the Net at 1999 or 2000. I don't remember 100%, but I remember I got addicted to chatting around 2001.
First time I used internet in 1998 and first thing i wanted to do is sign up for email at yahoo but i couldn't do it at this time
I remember when my parents had Prodigy back when the internet had no pictures.. just text in '94. It got too expensive though... long distance dial-up connection. We didn't get the internet again until 1997 and then my parents stayed with dial-up until this year, my fiance and I talked them into Cable internet. My dad actually didn't like cable at first because when he was using eBay when he'd refresh he'd have time to build up anticipation... now it refreshes instantly and there's no time to build up that anticipation. He now also gets to experience boredom on the internet and he's always watching videos on Youtube... old concerts and whatnot.
My dad was the same until last year. He used to go and make a coffee while his eBay pages loaded. Now he's an eBay PowerSeller and bets on online horse races all day
it not long ago 2003-2004 in a cafe to start with a email id and went up staying online for 4 hours!!! thats day
