I need some help pricing services rendered at a fair market price. Here's what I did for client: Purchased domain name Hosted and designed very simple website Optimized page text and meta tags for high quality targetted terms Developed inbound links from high pr sites and directories build site up to PR4 Ran Overture PPC and Google Adwords campaigns Got top 3 position in Google for "best" term Got top 3 position in Yahoo for "best" term Got number 1 local position for generic service term etc The client is now ready to pay based on the success of his site and wants me to charge him a fair market price. Seriously? $3000? $10,000 ? less / more What is fair?
It sounds like they are potentially going to be fair about it. Just realize you have put yourself at a significant position of weakness. You did not even agree or discuss a price before doing all the work. With all the work done and the benefits seen, the client might not be as anxious to pay as much for it. You must have given some thought to a price at some point. Take that price and tack on 50%. Then when they balk give them a 25% discount. The problem is it does not sound like you even established a ballpark. You could tell them $10,000 and they could say we were thinking more like $200.00
I think the key is the "best term" , if the term is something like "web hosting" you should charge a lot, if it is a term that is not searched much then it isin't as valuable. So it is difficult to say how much without knowing the keyword, but as you said it was his best keyword, so it will be quite profitable to the client. My advise don't sell yourself cheap, what you have achived is very good, top 3 position in google + yahoo, I applaud that. Well done.
