What would you pay to be number one?

I am toying around with the idea of a pay for performance fee schedule. What would you pay to be ranked number one in google for a highly competitive keyword phrase?

I was going to say: Depends on the keyword. I would pay thousands if you could get surebetbookies to #1 for 'Sportsbook', but I don't think it is possible.

It's a gamble you might end up losing. No way should someone guarantee something, even if it's a performance payment basis. Who knows right after it ranks on first page and you paid your bills, rankings go nowhere?

LOL... what if we had.... Escrow for SERP?

You pay, the money stays locked for 1,2 or 3 months or until goal is reached. If goal is reached or surpassed by set time - the money gets transferred to the SEO specialist.

If it doesnt - you get your money back. :)

That's impossible... A bad idea... even if you pay google will not consider a site if it's worthy to be number 1 in google....Google is after the right keywords...Consider this, people who pay a PPC don't rank a website in Google? That one of example that google is not after the payment google is after the quality contents and quality of the site...

Thanks for the feedback. Regarding those who say it is not possible, I would agree that it is not CERTAIN but it is VERY possible. I have done it before. The escrow idea is actually quite creative - I might even consider that one, if the price is right. FYI, this client is actually in the "improve your sex life" genre. So I guess more to the point, what is it worth to be ranked #1 for a sex term? (A lucrative term that should generate a lot of revenue and a term that I think I can hit number one for, based upon my past performance).

I do appreciate the feedback that this is a bad idea. The only way that it would be worthwhile would be if there was a big upside on the backend. If I'm assuming all of the risk, then the client must pay a premium (or it just isnt worth it IMHO).

I would pay nothing myself, but I am sure many would pay any # given to them if they can afford it :)

I would make my own efforts to make the particular site #1 in google with any keyword. This may take long but i know if i have patience, it will be fine.

It's not just a matter of paying but working.
If you pay for a website which does not deserve being at the 1st place then your money is likely to be worthless: 'paying --> black hat'

What does the keyword "Google" have to do with improving ones' sex life? Although there are no guarantees, I am talking about a keyword phrase that I have the ability to take to number 1. I never made the claim that I can take any term to number 1. My post isn't about whether I can get the job done. The question is this - what is the value.

Login - I see that you do a ton of posting here & respect your opinion, but I'm not sue that the client is looking for exposure. What I am looking at is the equivalent of this:

    Website: SexPositions.com

    Term is: Sex Positions
