Hello, I'm just getting into advertising on my site. I've set up OpenAds to manage my ads and now I just need to figure out what to charge. I don't have any point of reference since I've never done this before, but I was prompted to do this because someone has approached me that they would like to have a banner ad on my site. So if you go to http://www.devtrench.com you can see where the ads will be. What would you pay for: 468x60 banner in the header 234x60 half banner above 'popular posts' 120x60 skyscraper in the sidebar 250x250 ad in the post content (not on homepage but it will be) Note I'm looking for what you would actually pay, nothing general. These would be rotated with 4-8 advertisers per spot. Devtrench is a new blog (3 months old) and you can see traffic stats in this category. I'm thinking of offering a 30 day free trial for new advertisers to fill the spots, but first I need to figure out what the spots will cost. Thanks in advance for your advice.
You need to post some information regarding your traffic. I don't think anyone can give you a price without traffic information.
Dnscoop.com says $5 Honestly I could not pay anything more than that for a few reasons. Alexa traffic is 500K - means you aren't getting noticable, if much traffic. PR0 - which is expected from a new site (3 months old)... but the longer you have been going for, the more advertisers are willing to advertise with you. Comments are huge. Not many people are commenting, so that means you are having trouble getting people interested in your blog. It is a tough to get those comments when you first start blogging, but comments will increase your subscriptions and value. Keep working away... the longer you go the more valuable you will get.
Thanks! You're right on with all of this, new blog, not much traffic yet, etc. In fact, I was surprised to be approached by an advertiser so soon. Beginners luck I guess. Daily traffic is about 30 unique visitors (so next to nothing), but I've had spikes of up to 400.
nice design and nice website. I won't say you can't earn $$ from it but perhaps instead of saying your rates upfront, you can ask your advertisers instead. Ask them about their budget, ask them what would they want to achieve here, ask them what they are promoting. Position yourself as the expert there. And say that you can cater to their needs and stuff. If you are talking about internet marketers, you would probably need to show your statistics, alexa rankings and stuff. All the best in getting the deal.
i have 4500 uniqe visitors a month,86.000 google indexed http://www.videsreedhar.com if you interested i can exchange banner
ideaGenerator and Michael Reily said it right. I'd stick with their advice. In particular, since ideaGenerator pointed out the factors of being new, etc., you can use Michael's advice by asking what the advertiser's budget is etc. This way you're more likely to receive more than what you might put a price on since you're new. Keep the leverage on your side. Not saying gouge the person, but remember your worth, remember how established your are at the beginning, and build from there. It's easier to make it a win/win at this point if you work within the person's "budget".
Yeah I think you shouldn't jump into the advertising game so soon. Work on getting the traffic up and improving your SERP and then many people will willingly to pay hefty cash. At the moment $5 would be the max.
Thanks for all the new responses. I've been looking at banner exchanges to increase traffic and would be interested to know some opinions you all have about them. Thanks, James
