    Niche: travel guide website
Question: which type of website would rank better on the keyword 'Amsterdam, Athens or Prague' and why?

    1. A general website like Fodor's, Frommer's or Lonely Planet (with random domain name)
    2. A city specific website such as Athens.com, Amsterdam.com or Prague.com (non-official city website but with keyword domain name)

And more specifically: from when on would a general authority website with a random name, be more favorable by Google over a more specific website with a keyword domain? Is this purely based on the age of the domain and the amount of pages indexed or is there more, and for what type of website would you go if you are not sure about the amount of time you can invest?

    Thanks!

There is a lot that goes one behind the scenes that ranks pages. A big factor is how many backlinks a page has. So basically how many people are linking to that site from social media sites, forums, blogs, comments.... That kind of gives google a good idea of how useful the content of the site is. The more people sharing it the more useful it must be
