Ok.. so you have KEYWORD that get searched for numerous times. Then you have "KEYWORD items" "KEYWORD1 things" "KEYWORD1 pictures" that all get searched for a lot, but not as much as KEYWORD alone. Question: Do I try and make a whole website about the KEYWORD or do I go after the phrases? For Example: Do I buy KEYWORD.com as a domain or Do I buy the exact phrases for domains "KEYWORD-items.com" "KEYWORD-t hings.com" & "KEYWORD-pictures.com" and make a few websites and backlink them all back to eachother? What's your input...
That was my original plan.. but what are the BENEFITS on doing this, rather then buying numerious domains, and backlinking...
the backlinks aren't going to help you much since the sites will likely all be hosted on the same server and domain. Also by grouping the pages all together you stand a greater chance of gaining backlinks from others and becoming an authority in your area.
it doesn't hurt you to host them there, but linking several sites together that share the same ip address will not benefit you nearly as much as if they were all hosted in different locations. It's seen as more of a link farm and the links are discounted (they don't hurt you, but they don't help as much as they could)
so I buy keyword.com, and some one searches for "Keyword Pictures" will google bring up my domain names default index (domain.com/index.html) or will it bring up the actual "keyword pictures" page (domain.com/keyword-pictures)
it would bring up the page that ranks for the term (domain.com/keyword-pictures). Just be sure to get some deep links to all of the sub pages in the site.
I agree with 1EightT, first aim to become an authority in the KEYWORD market, and then you can sub-divide your site if you feel keyword-items makes sence to be on a domain for itself. As you both said, focusing on 1 domain will make the process of geting high SERPs easier, then if everything went well you can pull the content for keyword-items from the first domain and start a SEO camp on the secound domain.
