What would you do if a 50 + years old man nocks on your door one day and asks you for your 9 year old daughter's hand?
This man is not an ordinary one though. He claims to be a very, very special one - one of kind, and is currently married to one or more other women as well.
    What would you do?

Probably kill him. I saw a programme late last night on Channel 4 in the UK. Doing a documentary about islamic extremism and this is one of the issues the program raised.

Scarey. Needless to say, if anyone approached me about my 9 yr old daughter, they wouldn't be approaching anyone else anytime soon.

Unfortunately this practice happens daily in poor countries and nobody says a word

Of course it is outrageous but unless the distribution of money can filter down to make poor communities self sufficient and get them off the 'bread line' then these abhorent practices will continue governed by religious and social directives

I don't think any amount of money will make me or any normal parent give their 9 year old or even 14 year daughter to a man 50+ for a wife. Even if he argues God is giving him my daughter as a gift and I have to submit to His will.
As a matter of fact my God tells me that he needs to be taken off the streets ASAP.

I know where you are going but I have 12 and 11 year daughters and personally if that happened he'd be on the ground in a split second, tied and gift wrapped for the police to deal with. If he came back a second time his jewels would be permanently non-functional and if he came around a third time I'd be in jail.

The source of this alleged marriage to her at the age of nine can only be found in the so called Hadiths, which are nothing but lies attributed to prophet Muhammad. It has no support in Quran. It does not make practical sense. Any person at the age of nine is still a child who is incapable of taking crucial decisions which are essential for marriage under Quranic guidance, like taking solemn pledge, ascertaining mutual attraction, agreeing to the dowry (including adjustment thereto), ascertaining whether the opposite person is an idol worshipper or not and many other issues. Further, marriage involves taking serious responsibilities on the part of both the spouses concerning the upbringing of the family, which a child of the age of 6 or 8 or whatever is incapable of taking.
God commanded us in the Quran not to accept any Hadith but the Quran. The prophet Muhammed himself ordered his followers not to write any hadiths and to write only the Quran.

So before you go around posting a whole load of crap, read the facts. Why are you lot always against Islam?, I admit Islam has its faults like all religions but still that is no excuse to go around demeaning the religion and calling the prophet a paedophile. You will not find anybody who insults or demeans another religion apart from extremists and terrorists, Which one of those are you lot?

Yes and what gives you reason to believe these Hadiths? Is everything written in books true?

Anything about Islam- If its not written in the Quran then its most likely been made up

Child molestation by anyone and any religion is despicable act and therefore there are laws to protect the children and punish the child molesters. This is another example of the child molestation which it seems most societies still are not dealing with and that is child molestation by priests.

"The evidence is that a higher percentage of Catholic priests and male Religious molest children more than other ministers of religion. Clergy of all denominations do not molest equally. In her foreword, the lawyer, Sylvia Demerest cites a 1995 survey of 19,000 treating professionals, funded by the National Centre on Child Abuse and Neglect. The study found that in the US, 94% of abuses by religious authorities were sexual in nature.
Over half of these cases (54%) involved perpetrators and victims who were Catholic, even though Roman Catholics comprise only 25% of the United States population. The minor victims of priest abuse are overwhelmingly boys and teenagers, (8090%), which is contrary to the pattern of abuse in the general population.

American studies are not the only ones which defy the assumption that clergy of all denominations abuse equally. The BriggsHawen study included 200 convicted child molesters in New South Wales, Australia. It found that 93% of convicted and imprisoned child molesters had themselves been sexually abused as children and 60% stated that they had been abused by a Catholic priest or Brother."

    http://alterboys.tripod.com/Faith/Studies_on_Prx.html

While over half sexual predators are Catholic, it means 46% of sexual abuse are done by non-catholics. The start of this thread is discussing a hypothetical situation, the abuse of children by priests is a reality that happens every day, so the question will be:

How do you react if your child is molested by a priest?
