Hey, Thanks for checking this out. I'd like an increased sign up rate for http://mostuseful.co.uk So far I've come up with these solutions and reasons why users should sign up: Able to use the download section to download summaries No advertisements for logged in users Able to participate in the forums Able to submit their own content, and have a personal blog The money isn't currently available until I get sponsors so I'm unable to offer anything such as prizes. Once I've finalised the ideas I'll put them into place and start sitewide promotions for these ideas, If someone was to help me greatly in this area I'm more than willing to offer that persons URL to be a prominant feature in the sign up promotions. Looking for some useful advice from you awesome marketing gurus. Thanks for reading
When I went to your site I mist the top buttons altogether. Seen the orange logo top left then the big rotating banner was the next thing my eyes diverted too. You might want to make them buttons the same colour as the logo. Every page I have clicked on I have had to scroll down past ye Google ads to get to the content , You might want to move these to the right and use them as a side bar and move your content up.
Awesome reply, thanks a lot for the details! If everythign was ideal there would be no ads, I'm afriad the ads are where they are at the moment because they score a high CTR (Click through rate) and I can't afford to move them. That's why offering no advertisements to logged in users was a good idea I think. Thanks a lot for your suggestions, I'll have a look at testing them very soon!
I think more people would signup if you have less Google ads. I'd think of it like this ... Do you want more people to click on your Google ads or more people to signup to your site?
All you have are the links. As a visitor, why should I click on them? Nothng compels me to. Then you have those Google ads. It looks like almost half your pages consists of those ads. I have high-speed, and the page is slow downloading. There are still many who have dial up.
Nice site, I read an article but I'm not the type to sign up for this sort of site. Try getting more targeted traffic to your site and it might help with conversions.
Nice question, thanks for that. I'd love a balance of the two and I'll work towards that, thanks for your reply
Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure what you mean by 'all I have are links' when it clearly is not. Also, I understand about being compelled, but if this wasn't something you were interested in you wouldn't have gone there in the first place so I believe that covers the motive to click. Could you tell me your country, and Internet speed please - Since you are the first person to mention slow downloading speeds of the page. I've only had 349 dial-up users in the past month so I'm not worried about optimising for dial-up. Thanks a lot for your input
Thanks for your reply! That's currently my aim! I'm SEO'ing everything I can at the moment (Taking ages!) to gain as much targetted traffic as possible. Thanks for the feedback, least I know I'm on the right track
Why don't you use pay per lead campaign such as paying $2/sign up and i'm sure it will drive a lots of sign up
set up a blog with squidoo or hub pages to curently fund your other projects, if you want people to do only one thing on your site, to sign up, only put one option to click and that is the join link. You dont have to make a killing with a blog and in one month you can easily make 50 dollars a day, tp fund your other site, and get organic backlink as well
I don't understand the purpose you put the signup at the bottom of the page when in fact your aim is to get signups in the first place. To tell you the truth, I didn't notice the button until I have to scroll down to the bottom and that is after a sea of google ads.
Thanks for your reply. But, I believe that will drive people to sign up just for the money. Meaning I'll have 100's of sign up and no quality members :/
Thanks for your reply. BUt, I don't have any other projects currently, so I'm, not sure what you mean.
Thanks for your reply! Seems placement is an issue I'll need to test around, since there is in fact 3 register links, one large font above the logo in bright blue, another image in the introduction text and then the final login box at the bottom. If you missed them all, I'm sure a lot of others will too, so I'll look to testing more placements. Thanks for your input!
On the homepage it is. If I just happen to land in your site, what would compel me to click on any of them? Agreed. But, again, what if I just happen to land there? Or if I click on one of your ads, and I look around a bit but quickly lose interest because I may be tired, or antsy, or whatever? There's nothing there to keep me or other users going in those instances. I'm just saying, you should think about having the start of your articles and other info on the hompeage, and then have a "more" link to go to the rest. All of those ads don't help much either. Half of your site consists of them. It doesn't matter which country I am from. I'm too lazy to look for my speed. Just know I have high-speed. That's enough to know. I clicked on your link again, and about 4 seconds passed before your site came in. But I also did not delete my cookies, so you are in my cache. It would, probably, be twice that long if I were a first-time visitor. No big deal. I just though I'd let you know. How many would it be at the end of the year? How many sales could you make? Average conversion rate is between 1-2 percent for a nice-looking site, so do the math. Something must be wrong with your site, because you do not have much info on your site to even hang up for that many seconds before the site can even be seen. It should come in almost immediately, even with dial ups. You're welcome. Good luck with it.
i would just put one square google right at the top of your page left side of course this way, you can save a lot of web space and y are you putting this at the bottom of your page? i think you should just hide this message and replace it with "about us"
I don't think that this comment is useful as you are not giving a suggestion. My thoughts: When I went to your site, I wasn't sure what to do next. Its a bit confusing what the site is all about, even your intro paragraph doesn't make sense. I think people in general have a short attention span and will leave quickly. Your ads are above the fold and I think you should put the what's this page all about first, then your ads (although I wouldn't click on your ads b/c I'm the type that needs it to be next to content). That's just me. Second, if the user is confused, they will likely not revisit. What's the Value of me posting a summary on your site? Does it get index quickly? Can I put in a link to my site? Personally, I love the colors. Its appealing and maybe just need tweaking to keep your visitors. Lastly, pay for posts. Run promotions.
