What would cause my server to freeze?

We run an Apache server on RHEL5 for web and it froze up the other day. I really can't provide much more detail than that b/c I didn't actually observe this. I was away at the time, so by the time I found out, my colleagues had already rebooted the server.

What I'd like to know is what could cause this to happen? Increased traffic? A hack attempt? How would I found out. Which log files do I need to check and what do I need to look for?

It could be hardware related. Memory defective or Corrupted hard drive or it can be software related.

Check out the log files in /var/log. If it freezes again, dont have the DC reboot it right away. Tell them to paste you the console output before they reboot it. You will get much more information on the problem.
