what would be the alternative of Search Engines?

Hi friends,

In daily life we use internet and search engines.Internet without Search engine like jungle without lion.We totally dependent on & rely on these. All Search engines showing results with their preference,can say they are get to become more commercial .We consider all results are organic.

What would be the alternative of search engines in your point of view?

Directories used to be big in the early stages of the web. I remember using Yahoo directories a lot

 

DMOZ will work here? I didn't use.

 

Stumpedia is voter based results ( which can be gamed) but it's pretty cool

 

Then people will move to digg.com, stumbleupon.com or the use of forums will increase.
Because people will try to search(put) their requirements at these places.

 

blog & forum etc. increase your site ranking.

 

I'd rather modify comparison to just pitch-dark jungle.

IMO, the best alternative to a search engine is a better search engine.

there is no other way which is as fast, as easy to use and as up to date as search engines.

I agree. Until such time that computers can read your mind, I doubt VERY seriously that any replacement for search engines will come to be.

 

Twitter, Wikipedia....

 

Maybe some kind of search agent based in time. Search engines do not restrict searches by "time window".

 

As you know facebook & Twitter starts real time search. This thing can beat search engines may be.

 

I cant imagine a life without Google, frankly. Twitter. Facebook - all we can share a lot. But where i can go for my searching? There must one resource to help me when i have a query.

okay quite a strange OP. Not sure what you're getting at. But if you're asking what people used to do to find out info before the days of search engines. Then that's easy, encyclopedias for info, yellow pages when looking up businesses etc.

 

Real time search? if you can perform a search, isn't it what search engines enable you to do?

 

There is no alternative to SE.

 

Any high traffic, frequently updated site but SE is the best for a reason. I wouldn't be able to live without it lol.
