I'm sure you would agree that Adsense is a numbers game. The more traffic to your site generates a higher volume of clicks. That being the case, the objective, naturally, would be to develop strategies to generate more traffic to your site. All things considered now. I'm wondering what you consider a decent click through rate; given quality content and using the typical ad placement and blending techniques. And I'm talking about the 'average' Adsense user, not the guru who has refined his techniques and placement and so on.... I understand that once someone's site has developed incredible traffic numbers, the income potential can be very lucrative. But even then, there should be a measure of what their average CTR is. How about a scale? Beginner CTR (fresh out of the gate) ? Intermediate CTR (dozen-100 Adsense utilized pages, 50-125 uniques/day) ? Guru CTR (100+ pages, more than 1 site, 150+ uniques/day) ?
My site so far seems to vary anywhere from 2% to 5% or so, it's been fairly active/online for about 2 weeks. I'm hoping to optimize a bit more though and maintain a CTR above 5% or so at least... but we'll see what happens.
I am happy with 2-3%, anything more and I get scared with many people playing foul, and google's swift penalty .
At the end of the day, a respectable CTR depends on you and your site. Forums have really bad CTR, while other informational sites can get really high CTR. It also depends on where your traffic is coming from. For instance, I've noticed that traffic on my sites from MSN and Yahoo is more likely to have a way higher CTR than traffic from google, although google sends a lot more traffic.
