I have a youtube channel that generate several million views per month. I've been contacted by a company that would like to have product placement or rendered in ads on my videos. They have proposed a 60/40 revenue split where I get 60%. I'm not sure of 40% is a fair cut for connecting an advertiser with a content creator like me. Thoughts?
I would consider 75-25 in where you get 75% fair. Those ratings are also used by companies as Buysellads.com.
It's down to you really, you can either agree with their 60/40 split, or haggle it to a 75/25 split, or agree to it, wait a month to see how much money you make from them and take it from there.
There are no such standard for "fair", it whether worth or not worth. Not sure how is the revenue you are talking about, if they are selling product at your site, and you get 40% revenue for each sell, it is good enough. However, if they are putting those ppc advertising and ask for 60% revenue, then you might consider to find the advertiser yourself
You may as well try to get as much out of it as you can while still maintaining a good relationship. At least ask for 75 and maybe you'll work to 70.
fair/unfair is up to you. in my opinion, if what is offered to you is better than what you've been earning before, it's fair.
