Could any body give me a ball park figure what the following would be worth? I am thinking of selling my article site, It has 11,000 articles and has about 50-80 added everyday, we were getting about 200 but had to cut down as it was getting to be a lot of work, I also have a db of 25,000 articles I never got around to adding It was PR4 going onto to PR5 until google decided to drop it I have no idea why as i didn't use any seo tactics on it, the only thing I could think it could be would be duplicate content...but as it's an article site I am not sutre as we get articles at the same time as everyother site and ours are usually checked and uploaded in a few hours.....but I have filed a re-inclusion request so the price would be based on it being listed again. It's currently showing 850 backlinks in msn and 550 in yahoo There is a bit of adsense income but it's not worth including..
Id hate to be the one to tell ya, but without pr, revenue or backlinks its not gonna be big.. Better to sell copies of your DB me thinks...
Did google drop it from it's index? If they just dropped the pr, then it still may be worth something. Post the url and we could help more.
With google inclusion I think it could be worth more than $2000 (changes with rev/visitors). Without google inclusion I don't think anybody would pay more than $400 Thats just my thoughts, if you want you can send the site url to me in pm to have a look.
Thanks.. The link is actually in my signature, (freezine-articles) currently we get about 300 uniques per day, with re-inclusion in Google that figure should be much higher.... better get google to pull their fingure out.
As to MSN, I show 183 links. MSN lists the wrong link count on the first result page. If you click a few pages in, the right count is show. Article sites, as a base, have minor worth. Worth is built through backlinks, PR, members, incoming submissions and of course, Revenue. I'm not a big fan of setups like this: http://www.freezine-articles.com/category8.html If you made the site more SE friendly and picked up revenue, it would be worth more than $100 or so. The articles are not mattering much these days since you can buy DBs of tens of thousands for pennies--unless you have stuff exclusive to your site, which is the next step in article distributions sites.
The trouble with articles is you're talking about mass syndicated content, which isn't necessarily going to be easy to monetise if dupe content filters result in low traffic. Maybe better to offer an exlusive copy of the site for a higher price, or else limited copies for a smaller one. Worth seeing what you think of that.
