What works better?

What is the best way to get a visitor to fill out a form with somewhat personal information? (personal debt information)

    A) A form directly on the landing page with content surrounding it (does a form intimidate the user when they first arrive?)

    B) A Landing Page full of content that sells the customer on our services with a highly visible button directing the visitor to fill out a form on the next page.

What are your opinions on this? What has worked for you in the past?

I recommend you get the marketing sherpa landing page report, it's excellent

option A would be the best according to the study

I've come across that Marketing Sherpa online. Are you talking about the $250 book? I just purchased a case study about Raising Conversions Rate for Financial Services New Account Market for $9. The company in this study uses approach B that seemed to work for them. This is why i'm asking the question. The forms we use at our company doesn't seem to convert all to well and we use option A.

there is no definite answers. most of the approaches in the $250 book worked well for us. However, it depends on your audience, your offer, your relationship with the customer, and the manner by which they got there

    test, test, test

I agree with the testing alot to find out what works best. Is the book tell you step by step the proper way to build out a good landing page. This case study i just bought, only showed an example of their landing page.

I think credability is the key here, and a page that gives the user information first is going to seem less like a scam--a lot of loansharks and get rich quick schemes put everything on the front page and have very little information to complement it. Since people are already going to be leery about giving up personal information, it would probably be better for your credability to shy away from anything that suggests a scam--I'd give them info, and direct them to a form on another page.
