I stumbled across this article the other day and thought it was an interesting read. A Nielsen survey looks at the key features of mobile phones that appeal to both men and women, which aren't always the same. "Globally, while more men gravitate toward tech-savvy mobile phone attributes like operating system (48% men vs. 41% women), battery life (48% vs. 44%), screen size (38% vs. 34%) and processor speed (41% vs. 31%) when shopping for a new device, more women are influenced by price (72% women vs. 67% men), service contract terms (27% vs. 25%) and camera capability (32% vs. 30%)." What do you think of these results? Personally I go with the operating system and design, but then thats just me.
It looks like the female part of the population is more tolerant to almost everything in their next cell phone, except the price.
It amuses me that carrier and plan even make it on the list. I'll never understand why people buy phones that are "locked". Luckily that doesn't happen in NZ. Probably the only thing I'd change is moving operating system down a bit.
Actually I think that there are lot of women who pay more attention to phone color and overall design. Several friends of mine prefer Nokia Lumia models just because they offer designs in bright colors. Of couse it's not the only criteria but something that should be mentioned. Btw my wife bought pink Acer laptop just because "it was cute"
And my teenaged daughter has a million phone cases - but I think the after market for accessories is probably bigger for women who want to colour coordinate and the phone's colour itself is a lesser issue. Laptops don't get dressed up so I can see the aesthetics there being more important. I guess I just got pissy at the "all women are shallow" implication.
Yes, a lot of cell phone accessory stores are doing wonders selling to the young teenage female market.
