Impressive, I wonder how the rankings for that one will work, cant use linking or onpage factors..and there will be alot of competitors eventually
For those that don't want to click through to know what's up: Google launches TV search service The search pinpoints where in a clip the search term appeared The net search giant Google has launched a search service that lets people look for TV programmes. The service, Google Video beta, searches closed caption information that comes with programmes. It only searches US channel content currently. Results list programmes with still images and text from the point where the search phrase was spoken.
As Eden said, it's only a picture. Although in contrast Yahoo has a similar service in the works allowing clips to be downloaded. Another current crippling factor with Google is they don't have all of the US channels searchable, but only a few select large scale cable networks. While this isn't bad, it's far from what I had originally pictured it.
It's a beta version for crying out loud, give it some time. Not that I'd have any use for this, but it does sound pretty cool. As for clips, that's going to be a DRM issue with the copyright holders.
I noticed that the other day. It is amazing how much Yahoo! search looks like Google search these days.
chachi - This was a Yahoo! idea first, that's why they have all the partnerships, etc. taken care of. I heard that bothe desktop search and 1GB email boxes were also ideas batted around at Yahoo!, then released first by Google. Face it, the whole industry is so incestuous, they might as well have joint press conferences for new product releases.
