Flash. By far it is the most versatile platform.

    I use dreamweaver as well.

I spent a few weeks reading php books before I started to figure out how to make the forms work :)

I'm interested actually, what level of experience does it have to be able to visualize how a page will look without a wysiwyg design environment?

When I look at the actual html, even though I know what it all means, there's no way I could design the layout etc of my pages.

I just use the basic notepad that comes with Microsoft Office. Nothing fancy for coding html and other programming languages. Using something like this is harder when it comes to learning, but once you have learned it, it's more beneficial to you.

my sites? plural?. The proxies are free templates, but reelracing.tv was my design. Though I outsourced the actual coding to someone else.

Once you learn to code fluently and understand how pages are structured, it is actually very simple to picture in your mind where every table cell (or div if you are working table-less) has to be. Then you just write out the code.

If you already know how to write html, take a shot at making a simple page from scratch and you will see its easier than you think and actually a lot better way to work.

to learn layout structures i found it was easiest to download some of the free css templates and have a look in the source codes .. look at each div at a time and you can quickly work out how it is structured. and then you can start using basic layouts like them and work on it.

i never use the wysiwyg design section of dreamweaver only the code design.
