Hi i'm starting a new forum should be up hopefully monday or tuesday. I was wondering what everyone uses to promote them? I'm going to be doing social bookmarking, Forum Posting on other forums and blog posting as well. Link building to rank higher in serps. Mabey even youtube video. what may you suggest? also any people in here do good work in the above areas i mention? will be a question and answers forum on anything. Do you think it will be hard to get 10k organic uniques a day? I'm staying away from paid traffic that never converts.
Yes it will be very difficult to reach that goal with a forum. I think forums have got to be one of the hardest type sites to get going. People only want to go to active forums and you cannot become active because you are not active..or something like that. It's not impossible but I believe you will have your work cut out for you. I didnt have good experience with forums, even with paid advertisement. Like the above poster said, people want to go to active forums. What you could try is to create threads with different accounts and build conversations from there. It sounds weird because you would be talking to yourself but it's just an idea...
Much forum traffic comes from long-tail key searches. This means it is imperative to build up a high post count quickly with as much spread within the niche as possible in the post topics. Unless you get very lucky (or choose a pr0n or warez niche), 10K uniques per day will take more than a 18 months, possibly longer particularly with the promotional strategy you outline above. You many never get that sort of traffic, it depends on your niche. If you can start with an older domain (2+ years old), and have a handful of friends who'd be willing to post daily it'd get you off on the right foot.

Forums are hard to popular in first few months, but if your concept & main theme is good then you can move further. When people-visitors will go to your forum if they didn't see any activity in posts qty. they could ignore to comeback. So first one is you should find more ways to attract visitors to post something related. You can also go with some paid forum posters with quality posts. You may visit several forums, social websites groups and asking experts to post to their subject. You also run some adv. & link building campaign to attract visitors. See this is a slow process for months. Do not expect quick response & success. Once your forum will popular, you just need to manage it. ubs
ya i'm going to do topics and post in it first to make it seem like its active. then get people in mabey even offer a contest like so many post get 30 to thier pay pal account and so many threads get 40 somehting like that.
Forums are pretty hard.. you need to both attract visitors and convert them into members who will stick around.
