My first website was back in 1996. I used Geocities, it was a personal website. Very patetic! Just to learn HTML.
I got started in 1996. My first site was a personal home page on AOL, followed by a home page for our church. I used that terrible AOL HTML editor ... you'd work for two hours then lose all your work when you went to save. The Web Archive saved some of my 1996 sites for posterity. Fortunately, I don't have enough posts yet to shares that link.
Yea, I also had a few Geocities sites way back in 1995ish, before Yahoo bought them. They were ugly and used frames but it was a good free learning tool back then.
Great thread. I'm sure most of you are aware of the amazing Wayback Machine which stores old versions of many websites. The first website I created, when I was learning HTML, was this one which I pulled from the Wayback Machine from around 1998. The current version is not much better. It is embarrassing to have such a poor looking homepage. I have been meaning to update it for the last seven years, add content to it etc., but have been too tied up with other projects to work on it. Have created about 70 commercial websites in that time, but still haven't gotten around to making my own look OK!
i started some groups and my first domain name was globalmoneymakers.com which is not online now. i had so many plans and made some pages. one i remember i was making full page with all kind of links(1000s). huh whenever i see that page in offline it's like million dollar home page. aaaaaah i missed it
http://www.waybackmachine.org will make you laugh your ass off if you see how some sites started out.
