What Was Your Biggest Affiliate Marketing Mistake in 2008?

For me 2008 was an avarage year and the biggest mistake I made had nothing to do with affiliate marketing (I lost much money because the shares I own fell by 40%), however, one of my friends invested thousands of dollars in adwords and lost everything. That was undoubtedly the biggest affiliate marketing mistake he made. And what about you? Did you make any serious mistakes in 2008?

well i didn't invest thousands of dollars, but maybe $300 or so in adwords, and broke even.

what ive learnt from it is free traffic wins -> adwords since google changed their landing page criteria to become a landing page website etc (all seo'd etc).

Wasting too much time reading DP as usual, noobish adwords mistakes, even trying to use facebook ads to promote forex.

Didn't start building lists soon enough. Could've spent more on outsourcing rather than doing tedious stuff like link building, social bookmarking etc myself.

Spread myself too thin. Should have focused on just one killer site.

Ignoring real life relationships for marketing...never ever fall into this trap guys.

Then there was the total waste of time and energy getting involved with fake pharma companies, spending too much time and money on ventures that led nowhere, total screwage of the raw material supply for my own products and not releasing a clickbank product sooner, I guess I can sum it best in one word: procrastination, brings to mind something I read: procrastination is like masturbation-it feels good at first, but in the end you've just fucked yourself.

Here's to another awesome year guys, hang tough, stay hungry :)

    Not getting enough backlinks.

Now I use article marketing and Squidoo lenses for backlinks to my affiliate pre-sell pages.

My biggest mistake was doing less because I got comfortable with income that was coming in. Then sales dropped, clickbank started acting up and now I'm back on the grind again. Stay focuseds and keep pushing.
