What was the web like in 1996?

I've just started a new blog for fun with some reviews of web sites from 1996.

    http://theyearis1996.blogspot.com

I'll be adding more and more. It's good for a trip down memory lane. PDF files were just taking off and a 3Mb download was HUGE!

Anyone here been a webmaster since 1996?

Haha that's an interesting idea. In 1996 I was 10 years old and in love with this new country singer "Shania Twain". Lol, good times. I think I might have been playing "F-22 Raptor" online on the computer, but I don't think I did a lot of web surfing.

I remember if you made a chatroom you'd instantly get like 50 people joining it. Yahoo was the search engine Giant.

They do have a very distinct look don't they!

It's probably why I have a continuing allergic reaction to seeing Times New Roman on the screen

It is a good trip down memory lane! I went online in 1991 and I think I started doing webpages around 1994. Netscape was the biggest browser, Microsoft didn't have a browser at the time. Yahoo was affiliated with Netscape although not owned by Netscape. Mainly personal webpages and small business owners were online then.

Good Luck with your project k998!

Pretty cool concept. Boy, Pizza Hut was ahead of the game back then, wonder what happened to them, oh Papa Johns.

I went online in 1996. I was 27 years old and I was looking for a new method in gaining new subscribers for my print newspaper during the time. I spent a great deal of time at Yahoo, GeoCities and Pacific Net. The first website or pure dotcom that I owned was Barutiwa.com and I had purchased that in 1999. The first web page I designed on my own was at GeoCities. When I think back on how we used the Web then it was very primitive according to today's standard. Back then Spam was okay and many people made alot of money from it. LOL
