What use is it to post in forums with a link in the signature?

Like this. If I post here, my signature has my website in it. Does this help a lot? How much do i have to post to actually see effect?

 

It gives everyone an idea of your niche and thus creates more competition for yourself.

DP sends me decent referral traffic. It's my 4th best website for referrals, beating all but one directory in sending traffic.

 

So you're doing it mainly for the referrals or for the backlinks to help boost PR?

 

Frankly, I don't give much thought to either the referrals or the backlinks. With me, it's just a case of: hey, there's some benefit in the signature links, so don't ignore them. But I'm on DP primarily for the information exchange among knowledgeable people.

 

sig links on large an active forums like dp not only get you backlinks but also lot of traffic if your site is of same niche.

 

DP links are quality links, but still it does not pass to much PR to your website like other links.
I post in DP to always get good and better traffic,
The anchor on link helps in increasing SERP's.

If I check my stats I see people visiting my sites from DP and it also is a way to build backlinks

 

Your traffic from DP depends on

1.) Your number of posts
2.) The places where you post
3.) The Type of posts you make
4.) The anchor you use for your signature.

more post = more backlinks..
But the most important thing is the words that you contribute in a certain forums..

 

The benefit of posting in forums with your link in the signature is pretty obvious I think. Basically forums give you the opportunity to talk about topics where you want to regarded as an expert.

Once you spend some time talking and contributing to this particular forum people regard you as an expert in the field and often ask for help or some piece of advice.

When you have the link of your site in the signature and if the case is that the website offers similar or content that complements your posts people are more than likely to click on it and see what else you have to say on that topic.

Sometimes even a thought provoking or a controversial post might trigger people clicking on your signature link. But one thing is for sure, post like "PM I'm interested" or posts that do not contribute to the forum's development are not going to work for you.

You could have like thousands of crappy posts and not get a single click on your sig link or you could have several hundred posts and get a lot of traffic from your link in the signature. It is all how you present yourself to people and how they see you. Helpful and quality posts that contribute will always work and help you generate some traffic from your signature link.

So, start posting but not just for the sake of having a huge number of post, when you have something valuable that you want to share or say go for it, if you do not have anything to say don't bother posting crap, it might have a negative effect on you and your forum persona.

 

You will get traffic + google bot will crawl your site more often.

 

The main thing is regular crawling of your site and increased traffic to your website

 

It just doesn't seem like backlinks from here would be considered good quality links to effect PR. If anything, maybe the main benefit is to lead more spiders to your site?

 

They will give some PR and a few referrals (depends on type of site for referrals). The sig links, certainly shouldn't be a major form of SEO or Link Building for you, but they definitely won't hurt you.
