What Type of Website to Build to Make Money?

I have a handful of pretty nice domain names. I've been thinking to make some money from them by building a website for them and sell them off for a good price.

I've heard proxy sites are good sellers...so besides proxy sites, what site should I build?

I started a blog and only managed to sell it off for $450 for 7 months of contents. So, I don't think blog is good to build for the domains. What do you think?

Build a site in which you have a passion for...once you find what it is, grow it. I promise you , if you find the right passion, no matter if its a crowded niche, you will grow and profit.

I think only you can answer that question.

Do what you like, not what you can pretend to like in order to make money from,
you never know which will bring success, but the latter is more pain in the ass if you're not a pro.

There is good money in building websites and selling them. Unfortunately, you won't be able to sell quality sites here. You could spend 500 hours doing C++ & Java programming and build an enterprise level website and if you went to sell it here you'd get 40 16 year olds who will value your site on how much it made off adsense in one month lol. Oh not an established site yet? $1.

May I am an old fashion guy.....but let me tell you passion comes before than money....there are thousands of examples where put in their effort where their heart lies and then it becomes a phenomenon which they have not anticipated.

Every type of site can make money, its not so much the type of site that matters, its more about how much traffic (and the quality of it) it gets that affects how much money it makes.

So think about what kind of site can bring you a lot of targeted traffic. Find a niche (but not to small), build a site, and then add content, and keep adding content. All the better if the site can make use of user generated content too.

Sites like niche job boards or niche classified ads sites etc are great for user generated content, you just promote it and your users build the content (and click on your ads).

I think I answered a similar question yesterday..

Why not create Paid Membership Sites.. Just create a site, pull in some subscribers and sell it for a huge profit after few months....

People would pay for good quality information....

As an example, look at these two sites in the IM niche..

    InstantCashGenerators.com
    Earn1KADay.com

    Hope that helps,
    Anup

I agree with those guys who talk about passion. Shortlist things that you like in life: your hobbies, your passions, your little naughty quirks...

Then go to Google Adwords, click on Keyword Tool and list everything from that shortlist. Click the button and sort the keyword list by the highest price. You will see how much are each keyword/keyphrase worth and what is the estimated traffic level.

Just don't do a jokes site. I have been there before when I was younger - it's a crappy kinda business when you get paid a penny for a click :D
Don't do "adult" if you are not a pro or don't have the right connections - I have seen many pals driving their £££ down a drain!

Agree completely on finding something you have an interest in, the site development will seem less like work for sure. Also it is not that easy to build and sell sites, you need to generate revenue or traffic and prices are not great at times, when you check the time you put in. If you have good domains though, you may just be as likely to sell the domains as are without a site, that is if the domains are good.
