I am putting together a site, let's say hypothetically I am selling cordless drills. I am considering either going with the PHPbay/BANS approach or going directly with selling an online merchant's product. What do you think would sell better? I am planning on having a review/comparison of each item but am wondering if the consumer is skeptical about buying off eBay vs. an online store. There are several pros/cons to each and have listed them below, but I want to know what the public's perception is on buying online. Let's say I am selling DeWalt Cordless Drills. My merchant choices would be a Ma&Pop online retailer (that nobody has heard of) or eBay. Pros with eBay: 1. Can usually get a better-than-retail price 2. Sometimes offer other models that are either refurbished or discontinued (better selection). Cons with eBay: 1. Might be warranty issues as you would not have an original receipt. 2. Customer perception. I think alot of people still think that eBay only sells things that have something wrong with it (even though I personally shop there quite a bit and have had good experiences with them). 3. You have to bid unless it's BIN 4. You usually can't return the item unless there is something wrong with it. Pros with eTailer: 1. Item is most likely new, non-refurbished (unless stated) 2. Full warranty 3. No hassle return policy 4. Easy to purchase Cons: 1. Usually Full Retail Price 2. Usually only carry current items (non-discontinued) 3. The store is not known to the general public so there is no reputation on how good the eTailer is. So what would you go with? Help me decide. Appreciate if you could give me some insight if you have used both on what would sell better.
