What type of hosting do you use for your web design company?

I currently have shared hosting at iweb.com, which has been fine, but I feel my sites load a bit slow and perhaps I can do better. Also, they are based in Canada and I'm in the USA. Isn't too big a deal, but would be nice to have something in the US.

Anyway, if anyone here has their own web design or development company, (like I do) I'm wondering what type of hosing you use for your own website. Shared? VPS? Dedicated? Which would be best for this type of use? I also might want to host client websites, or at least refer them to shared hosing at the host I am with.

I need faster loading sites, and the ability to edit mysql databases externally, which at the moment I can't do with my shared hosting. thanks!

I believe most designers go with reseller accounts or a VPS. However if you go with VPS, you'll probably need a fully managed one unless your familiar with Linux as well.

Managed VPS will give you the resources you need to keep sites working fast. As you grow just upgrade your VPS.

I would suggest you to consider a VPS as you will get full root access to the server and you will be able to install the applications required :)

Also, the resources of the VPS will not be shared as they are in shared and reseller hosting packages which ensures better performance and reliability.

A Fully managed hosting package or server is always recommended and I would do the same :)

I have a web design site that I host on VPS. It has all the features of dedicated server but assuming a web design site won't really fall under a heavy load of traffic, you just need to make sure your server is in your hands, it's fast and reliable, so there is no need to pay for dedicated.

I was researching VPS hosting, and also came across cloud hosting, which I've heard of, but never really looked into. Does anyone use cloud hosting? It looks to be a decent price, but I'm wondering just how expensive it can get if you start having a lot more traffic. I would also be hosting other websites, not just my web design business, so there is the potential for an increase in traffic.
