Well you mentioned the most popular niches, so if you are intending a forum in them, it will be a very big task. I firmly believe that the only way to succeed in a new forum, these days, is to challenge a niche which has few if any forums in them. Focus on a very small target and perhaps expand as your forum grows.......Its easy to say build great content, do things better, do this and that.....but the fact is, that in the above niches you are competing against hundreds if not thousands of sites.....a difficult task indeed.
I would do a forum in something that you know a lot about. Because your going to be starting threads and posting in your forum and your going to be on other forum and blogs telling people about it. So do something you like.
If you are asking that question to yourself, then perhaps a forum is not a good solution for you. Look for other things that you can do online, there are already too many forum on whichever area you choose and takes years of work and persistence to make it work.
