I have my own site (which I'm not going to mention because I'm sure I've plugged it enough for you guys) that is a general forum that people can use to talk about anything. Is there any market out there for such a broad forum? I would like to think so, but if not, what kind of forum sites would you guys be interested in?
talk about anything ??? peoples will be confused and will not talk at all .. Choose specific general niche .
i guess i'm confused now. why would people get confused when they can talk about whatever they want to?
When you search for a forum you look for a topic you want more info on and/or that you want to talk about. Personally I am part of obviously this forum: All about website marketing etc. and a hockey forum. Pick a theme or even a huge topic like entertainment lets say and have sub forums within it like movie, celebrities, tv shows, whatever, you get the picture. Think of the reasons you come to this forum and use those same reasons when building your forum. On the open forum note have a Lounge section within your theme where anything goes. Remember the more broad the forum is the more moderation and the more man hours it requires to keep it up and running. Its no easy task but very possible. As time goes on you will have regulars on your website. Ask them to moderate sections on your forum of their choice. Give them a freebee if you want like free ads they want to promote of their choice at the beginning. As time goes on it will be popular enough people will just want to do it becuase they love to and want to be top dog in your forum.
I'd like to see a forum specifically for entertainment site webmasters. With sections for arcade owners, video site owners, humor site owners, marketing, stuff like that.
Then brainstorm every possible topic that entertainment webmasters would want to talk about. Each of these topics can become a subforum. Go to this forum: hfboards.com Its not mine but you can see how they break the forum into sub topics. Obviously this forum is massive but its definately something to strive for. Here is what I got when i searched for: entertainment site webmasters in google. http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=entertainment+site+webmasters&btnG=Google+Search&meta= These forums are your competition. You could use the DP keyword tool to search for the most popular keyword terms people are looking for in all of your subtopics and target those when building your forum and subforums.
