Right. Assume no great advert syndications hence no cookies can be processed. Say, you want to do poker-related and casino adverts. in order to maximise CPA effectiveness, you want to TARGET / PROFILE your random visitor and select the best advert to show to them. for a completely fictional example. you have referral bonuses for the following sites: PokerStars.com PartyPoker.com 888.com Poker.com VictorChandler.com fulltiltpoker.com skypoker.com williamhillpoker.com are you able to determine if your visitor has already been to any of these sites? the logic being, show them an advert / banner for one they have not visited yet. by the same token, if they have visited none of these sites, chances are they don't much care about poker anyway - but we can then check in the same way if porn ads will work better instead? or if computer hardware gadgets are of interest.... you get the idea anyway - so what such tools/services are there?
sorry for bump but... anyone care to comment? would you find such a tool valuable if it were available (if it does not exist already, I am going to write it - i created a working prototype yesterday but would rather not waste any time)...
AFAIK there's no real way to check if one of your visitors has visited those sites listed (unless your the owner of them, you could set/check cookies). What you can do is check if your visitors click on your ads and then show the most effective one's more often or something.
er, as i said, I just made a proof of concept prototype for this in javascript, here is the screenshot: this does NOT use cookies and i certainly do not own all the listed sites. but it's early days, it's a long way from being a configurable api that can be managed and used coherently across a number of sites. which is why I am asking of there is a similar product out there already. otherwise... i guess i am going to have to make everything myself - would anyone use such a service if i made it public?
There might be a plugin for openx for something like this. I'm not sure about usage of a script like this as it might have some privacy issues.
