what software do you recommend to write PDFs?

    Thanks,
    Richard.

OpenOffice.Org has built-in support for PDF creation, but if you're using an other word processor you should have a look at Adobe Acrobat (not reader), which I have good experience with, or the more affordable PDF995.

LaTeX (pronounced "latek") for me. It's the only real and professional typesetting free environment out there. Not that OpenOffice produces ugly results, but LaTeX is much much better.

I use Adobe Acrobat, even though I wish it wouldn't automatically embed itself in everything.

Have you tried Writely.com...I've heard it's gone "by invite only" but it will produce pdfs...works great and free.
