hey guys, 99% noob here! i am creating my own online store, simple one for starters. (create content pages, categories (cross refernce would be greate) show prices, add to wishlist or cart (no actual checkout yet)) i have great package with lots of options but i don't know what to use i am confused between 3 things for starters , CMS , Mysql, and e-commerce software (like zencart for example) i know CMS is to manage content, but isn't mysql the same ? or is this like user friendly interface and the programming language ? i have lots of CMS to choose from , drupal, joomla, mambo, typo, and more any advice from someone who used more than one which is easiest/simplest for total newbie ?
CMS is the whole package for what runs the website and can include any programming language such as java, php, asp, etc. CMS includes a database such as SQL amongst other things. If you would like an online store have a look at Magento CMS
now worries and no confusion CMS includes everything No need of coding, just like firefox extensions you will have some addon scripts there ( for e-commerce) you will get a admin panel from which you can run a site try drupal and play wid it you'll come to know
thanks that actually put alot in perspective for me , i am taking a shot at joomla 1.5 now, since i found it more common and have alot of templates and add ons other options are drupal, mambo, xoops, typo3 and the rest are for blogs mainly so no need for now my cart options (the built in ones) are zencart, oscommerce, and cube, from experience any suggestions which would go smoothly/easier ? thanks again
I have an ebook I'm in the middle of writing. It's in the rough draft stage, but I explain how I made over $32K in a year off of ecommerce. PM me and I'll send you the rough draft. Thanks, Jon
