What to use for bilding websites?

Alright, I need to upgrade my current level of website building... currently all I know how to use is FrontPage, and find it very limited. I would like to start making attractive websites, but I am unsure where to turn and what to buy or download to help me with this. I would prefer something that is fairly simple to use or easy to get the hang of... so what are your suggestions?

Unfortunately there is no "easy to get the hang of" way of creating site. Take it from some one who had to use Yahoo Site Builder to make their first site. Like everything else if it were easy there wouldn't be so many people making money at DP selling their skills.

There are two distinct things you must learn to design good looking sites; graphics (Adobe Photoshop, Gimp, Illustrator) and programming. You need to know both. As for programming you need to start looking at HTML and CSS. Then you need to learn how to merge the two together. Like anything worth knowing it takes lots and lots of reading and applying what you have learned.

Note: you can get Macromedia's Dreamweaver that helps out with the programming end.

Yeah, I tried to solicte the services of someone on DP but couldn't find anyone who wanted to take the project on. I guess I will have to get to reading. Also, thanks for the suggestions on the software to use.

Yep like jawinn said nothing is 'easy', but some are simpler than others. try this out 'http://www.coffeecup.com/'

It's quite basic but fine for xhtml/css. I think frontpage is dead now, it's been replaced by Web Expression afaik.

What are you trying to get done? I have built a business on sourcing work to people at DP.
