What to send clients who take a design without paying?

I got an email 4 or 5 years back when I hired a designer who was really slow with a design, not sure if he was going to do it, but I took the mockup and had someone code it and well I got an email a few days later. I had made a partial payment already but this letter basically said pay the rest or you could be sued or something like that.

Well I was wondering if there are any email templates like that that I could edit as needed for my current situation as I feel that this client ripped me off, I made the design, then he did a chargeback on the partial payment and then used the design.

    Thanks for any help!

So are you saying that years ago you did this to someone else, and now someone has done the same thing to you? I would call that Karma.

My situation was a bit different, I had atleast paid for part of the design, 50%, whereas my client paid 50% and let me finish the design and then charged back his 50% and stole the design and coding. I on the other hand took the design, which I figured was worth about 50% since the designer hadn't even begun coding or so it seemed and then I was nice enough to still pay him the remaining 50% with no delay when he asked for it, so in a way I did the right thing, I mean what would you do if you paid 50% and then never got a response from your designer when it was time for him to code it?

Either way this is different, but I would like to use the same method of getting my money which I think I deserve.

I always think a 50% before and 50% after rule works well.

Chargebacks should always be counted as part of the cost in a business.
It's very unfortunate that in such a technology age that people can still get away without paying a penny.
These people drive up the cost of all products we buy, because it is factored into the cost for a company.

I hope your DMCA works, mostly servers/hosts which get a DMCA will remove the content or force their client to.
It's just hard to keep track of where your design is used or that person may even resell your design to an innocent person.
