well i know it varies for the niche of blog, layout and so but what are the basic stuffs that you initially put on a blog? i have a usual intrnt marketing blog and its sidebar contains the sponsor, featured sites, and top commentator. but still i have a huge whitespace to fill so what are some of the things or widgets that maybe i should put to the sidebar to make the most of its space?

    thanks in advance

I usually add Top Commentators, Popular/Recent posts, subscribe box, recent comments, and if you have ads, try like 250x250 ads or 125x125 sized.

I think your sidebar is OK now, but you could use it to promote some of the best features/posts on your blog, too.

In my sidebar, I have a search box, a link back to the home page, a link to my forum, the most recent 10 post in my forum, categories, some pages, an adsense banner and an amazon banner.

To display the recent 10 post in the side bar, I use a script enabler for wordpress and the external data provider in vbulletin.

Tag cloud also can fill up the space.

    I absolutely agree with mdamin76!

Adding a tag cloud widget is a great way to fill up space in your sidebar. But...it will only work IF you're entering tags in your posts.

    BTW, countolaf, nice blog!

Hey guys thanks.. Anyway I find adding the top commentator widget silly on my new blog mainly because it doesn't get that much comment yet (being new) and it doesn't have a pagerank yet so there's no reason for backlink. Anyway what do you think?
