What to monetize on in 2016

Hello and Happy New Year for everybody.

This morning on the bus I ran through what people were saying what's worth to do to make money online in 2016 like websites about

1, How to find a girlfriend
    2, How to find boyfriend
3, How to get an ex back
    4, How to make money

    I would also add:

    5, Porn sites
    6, Dating sites

This is just the way the world is heading to, everyone is trying to make money on stupid sh*t. When you do something which is useful for humanity like bibliotek site, gene research, scientific sites, tech news that's all gonna be a complete fail (at least from the point of monetizing them).

I looking for online services what I can setup and generate some passive income for me over time (if not more at least 5-600 euros/year to pay back server hosting).

My other idea would be operating game servers and displaying ads in games as well.

If anybody got good tips, you know *sharing is caring* :)

In the first weeks of the year, like in any other year, all the things related to health, weight loss and "new year, new me" stuff.
For example, I`m an Affiliate Manager for a brain supplement company and I have seen a great increase in sales in this period.

But, because of that, these niches are very competitive and penetrating them is nearly impossible.

Regardless of the niche there are some questions to ask:
    - Is there a problem to solve?
    - Can you solve that problem better than anyone else or at least in a unique way?
    - Are people currently paying for solutions to that problem?

If you can answer yes to each of those then you're off to a good start.

With the rise of the internet of things and "smart" devices, perhaps you can capitalize on information/advice for those products?

I'd say focus on mobile more and more, look into mobile advertising trends which will be big in next 2 to 7 years. Thing like position proximity and mobile data gathering and analysis. Those you mentioned are not long term solutions and need much more investment than what you think. Be realistic and do your due diligence and see how hard it would be.

Yes...that`s the problem with these niches. Although they attract many people, they also attract many marketeers. But...you know what? Nobody said it is supposed to be easy.

Everything you have mentioned is very competitive, and if you do it wrong, then you may just end
up losing dollar after dollar. You need to design a site better then the last, you need content that is
better then that of your comptitors, and you need backlinks better then them too, all, and all, if you have
none of these skills, then expect a huge loss for the first year, and since these are competive markets,
then expect more losses as it may take 3-5 years just to get your foot in the door, and even then,
there is still no guarantee as far as google is concerned you will make it....

I saw a video the other day that this one guy invested as much as $1000/mo in his
niche, and it took him 2 years before he got to the point of making money, he claims
now that he is making far more then that now, even so, can you spare $1000/mo for 2 years?
and I know his niche was none of these that you mentioned, and will be much tougher to break in....

Too expensive and there's very little to do with it. It wont become huge until it's actually useful for something...though, as we were brainstorming this, porn industry should really take advantage of it.

VR has nothing to do with marketing from what I can tell, so there would be no application
for the use of VR. However, it could be a good application for military training use, or to
show some rich kid his next million dollar home by taking a VR tour....

    other then that...
I think VR has zero value...

You are aboslutely right, if any niche is worth doing, then you can already expect someone is already doing it, and you are in essence competing with every one else already doing it, and that is why so many people fail, simply because it can take a long time to show results, and if you are lucky, you maybe able to get some pie crumbs in the future

I don`t think that VR has zero value as you guys say. Have you seen the applications in mobile phones, PC games or heck, even the porn industry? :))
In Romania I saw VR tech demos in different cities. (you would pay some money to take a "VR roller coaster ride").
You say it has zero value, but I ask you, how much value did the selfie stick have before all the people went apeshit because of it?

VR is good for certain things:
    ie: Military, Home sells, Games

I do not think using something that looks cool has alot of practical use.
you have to ask what it can do for your application...Can you make any
more money driving a BMW compared to an Audi?

    What is a selfie stick?

The gaming industry is a big enough niche to make you build a blog which you can monetize (in my opinion).
I also thought that Kinect from Xbox will be a fail but it sold really good despite my negative opinions.
I didn`t say it has a lot of practical uses, it just have to have ONE good use and that`s enough.
And the selfie stick? It`s that thing that killed more people last year than sharks did... :|

It all depends on YOU. What do you want to do and how you go about doing it.
There's a couple of suggestions in the comments above to help you.

This whole business about marketing is a numbers game. It does not matter what you look at.
A person needs to understand what they want to do.

1- You may be able to sell ice cubes to an eskimo and John is not able to.
2- The clients that you speak too, will all have different needs and goals.
