What to look for when searching for affiliate products?

I'm looking at breaking into the affiliate marketing side of business, I have a plan that I think will work for me but I have one small problem

I'm not sure what sort of affiliate products to look for.

I'm going to focus on things I'm passionate about, but what else would be beneficial to look for?

    high payouts, etc...

    Thanks
    Sean

    Sean,
What do you plan to use for the page design? Do you know of any software to help with this? I am looking to offer some products too.
    Thanks

There's a few different things to look for when choosing a good affiliate product -

    -Solid (convincing) sales page
-Quality product (not just some rehashed "secret of x" information or a scam/ripoff)
    -Low refund rate
-Something that a group of people with money actually need and would be willing to pay for
-Possibly other similar products so you can do a compare & contrast kind of thing
-Something with at least some gravity so you know it sells
-Bonus if you're knowledgeable/passionate about it already!

Generally, if a product fits most of those criteria, it's worth looking at, from my experiences.

Nice tips Telmari! Here are some additional points of interest:
    • Watch out for 'leaks' on the sales page: ads, links pointing to other sites, etc..
    • Clear sales page - You know not to promote the product if you can't find the order button :p (sounds stupid, but you'll find plenty of examples @ CB)
    • Decent commission: I wouldn't go for anything lower than 60%, especially when you're planning on PPC
    • Note on the gravity: a very high gravity usually also means a lot of affiliate competition.
    • You might actually also want to check out new products with a very low gravity. If the sales page seems to be appealing, and there's some decent traffic available (use some keyword research tools), you might have found an untouched gem. (Usually you can tell if a product might or might not sell, by simply looking at the salespage... I found a couple of some good products this way)

And like you already said yourself: go after the things you're passionate about and/or would consider buying yourself :)

There is no buy button because the product hasn't been launched yet.

Business Plan Basics would appeal to Internet Marketers as well as entrepreneurs and small business owners. What do you think would be a reasonable price and payout percentage? I will be offering Business Plan Basics through clickbank affiliates.

Don't search for the product first. Search for the market, and find out if people are willing to spend money for this product.

By the way, I see that your name is ecovergeek. Are you designing ecovers?

Hey thanks, guys. As a publisher with a new ebook I've found your comments very interesting from "this side of the fence."

I would read the sales page and judge the site from a buyer's point of view.
