an0n did you happen to recognize the quote you stated by me was a response to slashpix advice for directory owners to donate?

Not sure why your so upset because I criticized about slashpix's comment on donating. Let me quote it again so I can know that the almighty an0n has actually read it:

Like I said before, my post had nothing to do with you.

    wow ,wow , wow an0n.

    A red.....

Let me clarify it for the almighty an0n a bit more:

Slashpix is basically advising directory owners to donate. To me, hes saying this for the wrong reason. Hes telling people to donate because it makes them look like "good people". Okay, so anyone evil can donate and call themself good?

Theres just something not right there. Theres lots of other ways to tell a persons character. Is it good for people to donate in general? Of course, if they could afford to, then go ahead. Afterall, 2/3 of this world are considered under the poverty line. People should donate because they care and want to donate, not just for the sake of "looking good".

I'm sorry if you misinterpreted my criticism and believed it was towards you. First you say I steal your code and now this.

Are you certain that he has "that" intention? For the sake of being recognized what he has done by others?

First off, nice article slashpix, made for very interesting reading.

LeopardAt1, I kinda agree with you, but also disagree. And yes I do get what your saying. If someone "evil" were to donate and call themselves good, it would be down to the people or community where said "evil" person is calling themselves good; to decide whether in fact that person is good or not.

So for example, lets say I decide to donate and then came here and mentioned it in a post. It's then up to you as to whether you let my actions change your view or opinion towards me.

Anyway, the main thing is that as long as the "good cause" gets the money, does it really matter where it came from or for what purpose? (As long as it's not illegal, before anyone jumps on me!)

an0n, chill out mate, I don't think his comments were against you. Just the reasons in general of why people donate.

I tend to agree. There are some people who will donate to good causes anonymously, and that's great. But if you want to benefit from the good reputation you'll get as a result, it's all the same. Because if charities had to accept only secret donations, a lot of deserving people and causes would go without.

Selling advertising is a perfectly relevant income stream for a charity. So if a directory wants to buy into some sort of sponsorship deal, or even just a link, it's probably better to do it for the benefit of a favourite charity rather than a business which may be engaged in less ethical activities.

I don't want to take anything away from slashpix by interrupting his thread with comments of mine. He did spend time to offer these tips to us and his first article was indeed probably much more useful for directory owners as well---Thanks for sharing slashpix and I'm sorry if I came off as rude for making that criticism. I hope you accept.

Having the donation suggestion listed under the "Promotion" tips, tells me that hes trying to say donate as a way of using a promotion technique. The technique I can only assume is, you donate and your directory visitors will think your good and thus having more trust to purchase a link from your site.
Of course, there could be other intentions slashpix had...its just the one he had written happened to be the one I criticized.

I guess your right about that. As long as the cause is receiving the money properly and the charity ran is respectable and trustworthy (Several ways of detecting a charity scam

Yep, theres probably more people out there who donate just to donate and not for the sake of anything (business or personal publicity) then the ones just doing it for promotion. But I do agree with you that if everything was to be kept secret, it will decrease the amount of donations.

Let's say a bad guy donates and tries to look "he is a good guy". But the fact still remains that "he donated the money". And the money will be used for whatever the charity is.

This bad guy continues to donate money. People see his action and recognize his generosity without knowing his real intention, but since nobody can see his heart, nobody knows about the truth.

And he still continues to donate money with a wrong reason, an act of evil. But the money is used for good purposes on the other side.

    Is this your view?

    lol, first thanks for posting.

If a 'bad' person keeps donating money away, then of course thats beneficial for the charity thats receiving it. But I never said this is an evil act. I just said its not for the right reason. Thats all. lol.

Doing a right thing with a wrong reason, if this is the truth, won't last. But who knows one's heart ultimately.

The blog could look and can mislead even though I don't see the author's intention there, but then people have different opinions.

How about this. Let the charity decides if this is ok or not? It's easy for anyone to criticize but harder to act on it, even with a wrong reason.

PS i might add a donation button myself on all my directories just to see whos who
and figure out a nice way of repaying that person back somehow...

Not sure what you mean by his intention. I never really criticized on his intentions of any sort. I did however criticize on his donation tip he had for directory owners.

I'm not sure where you're trying to go with this exactly. I'm not trying to get anyone to do anything. All I was trying to say is if your going donate some of your profit from your directory, then do it because you want to and not as a promotion technique like slashpix advised people to. To me thats the better reason I would wish for people to have, but like Malcom said, no1 is perfect in this world.

I agree with the part that one should donate without trying to promote his directory, but I still don't see why you had to criticize about it.

Is that kind of encouragement so bad that you had to put a post of criticism?

The statement below is more like a criticism to the person directly.
"Hes telling people to donate because it makes them look like "good people"."

Knowing the world is not perfect ;) yet you hope people to be perfect, right?

What if someone asked you that if you have donated from what you are doing with your website? Are you in a position to criticize someone or even someone's promotion tip?

If you agree with the criticism I gave him, why do you care if I criticized or not? Is this your first time you came across any criticism on these forums and decided to ask someone for their reason?

Actually yeah that kind of encouragement is pretty bad. I do find it odd for someone to tell people to give money away to make themselves look good. Did you not say you agreed to this? Is it bad for the charity receiving the money? NO. Is it the reason you would want someone to donate? NO, but at least the charity is receiving something.

I never hoped for anyone to be perfect. Now your just putting words out there for some reason.

Easy, I would answer no because I haven't donated any profits from my website (it made jack and its about a month old). But does that mean I don't donate in general? Lets just say when I make donations, no1 on this forum or any customers of mine will not know about it---put it at that.

I hope people stop arguing. I did not do it for or to make anyone popular and Rob did not even did it for popularities sake. Since that event. IndexSniff and Directory Dump has been received gratiously by the Office of External Affairs in Baltimore City. They would be welcoming more charity events promoted by the directories. Good or Bad ; Publicity or Not it just made a difference. So please LeopardAt1 stop arguing. I am a Sinner and have done things that you won't even imagine in your life. Maybe a few redemption might take off things of what I've done. And that goes for everybody as well.

    Thanks

I'm not the one trying to continue this thread. Its coolsitez the one that keeps up with the questions.

And as with arguing. When did I start any argument? Were just discussing. He partly agrees with some of my views, but was left with questions he wanted to ask. So he did, and I even said Thanks when he did.

And to tell you the truth, I'm the type that could honestly careless with what you or Rob have done in your lives...so not sure what is your point in telling me.

    Cheers

And if anything, Popo....this thread does support donating. Perhaps it'll be good for people to keep reading. Who knows. Not sure why your so anxious in trying to get me to stop talking on a forum.

I'm with popo and an0n here. And what Leopard said is at least very misleading people to think their actions/donations are for the sake of how other people might look or think of them.

I have been posting here because I do NOT agree with your criticism. I never said I agreed with your criticism there. I actually disagree with your criticism to the blog author, extended to An0n ultimately because of the way you put it.

Let me quote this again here.
"Hes telling people to donate because it makes them look like "good people".

I only agree with the ideal that one to donate to a charity should be something genuine, a purpose/reason to help someone out, not by a motivation of promotiong a business.

But I do realize that an ideal is often not practical. That's why even if it was not a right reason, encouraging a directory owner to donate for charity with a possible purpose and intention to promote his directory could be a "start". And I can accept/compromise that. To me, the promotion idea isn't ideal, nor perfect, but I can say, "it's better than someone who only talks but no action".

So, your criticism to their action based on your assumption is something I can not agree with. Your statement there could destroy others' genuine intention that should be recognized if must, not the twisted point of view you implied in your statement.

Wow, I'm the piece of crap huh?

Tell me Popo, when you first asked me to stop...did I?

Then an0n came in the dicussion and somehow brought it back.

Then coolsitez came in and kept asking questions when clearly I thought Silky settled things.

And now telling me this? I even stated that this thread would be good for people to read because it does support donating. And now your telling the Moderators to close it? I guess you speak some truth...you are a SINNER.
