What to Learn from Directory Dump to Make Your Directory More Successful

    Hello directory owners,

I wrote another article. I hope that it's as successful as last one (33 Killer Ways to Increase Your Directory Traffic for Free)

    Here is a sneak preview:

First off, let me start by saying that I was not paid by Directory Dump owner to review his directory.

I am going to talk about his directory with the aim of highlighting some important tips that I see in Directory Dump, which should be helpful and understood by a successful directory owner.

General Tips: (3 out of 7)

    1. Create a directory that’s ALIVE. No body wants to use directory that looks the same as it did one year ago. You can make your directory alive by adding rss news feeds, statistics or other dynamic mods.
    2. Use a number of pricing options. Everybody likes to have a choice, why not to offer it when people submit site to your directory? By creating a number of pricing options you make sure that it suits user’s needs and resources.
    3. Show an example how listing will look like. Everybody wants to see how their listing will look like after submissions so offer them that choice before they actually submit a site to your directory.

Design Tips: (1 out of 3)
    • Use images to indicate categories. In fact, when users browse your directory they first see images not text. So why not to use images and make sure that users actually enter some categories?

Promotion Tips: (2 out of 5)
    • Promote specific categories of your directory. I have seen that directory dump was promoting certain category of its directory but don’t remember where. Promoting specific directories will insure that inner pages get a good pagerank value.
    • Donate money. By donating money you will show your users that you are generous and good in general, which means that it will be easy for them to have business with you.

I did not actually wanted to review him. All I wanted is to share some techniques and tactics that directory dump uses in it's design and promotion.

If dmoz doesn't accept you, the answer is there - try in six months.

How much did Rob pay you?

    Lol --just kidding. :D

Very good review indeed --and congratulations to you for your hard work. It was a good reading. But I had reservations about two points which I put it accross on my comment there.
First thing Rob -is -Rob. A tech wizard. Although many of us wants to follow him --most of us can't manipulate the set-up or other things the way he can. It credit to him.

May you and DD LIVE LONG and succed in all your endeavors:)

Yes everyone....this is the only reason why you should donate money. Get real.

I would love to debate about the act of donations (choosing a cause, etc.).

Donate because you care about something, not because it makes you look good. Those who only donate to try to make themselves look good are generous and good in general?

In my opinion DirectoryDump is the #1 phpld directory as of today.

Just visit his directory and see how strong the backlinks are (even from detail pages.)

First of all I would like to congratulate you on that nice article. I may not been the brightest in terms of technicality here but I like Directory Dump's approach by way of marketing and promotion. Some may argue but that is the truth. There is NO PERSONAL thing its business. I may have not agreed with some people here on certain levels but I buy links from them. Lets take Dargre for example. If you look at Link Forever my sites are there. Reason is the guy has been building links and investing. Not just mouth or full of mouth. I don't mind paying for good links but I need to see results and that goes for other serious directory owners.

For charity please lets not go far at that point LeopardAt1. The money was placed to where it deserved to be. :)

Inner Pages Backlinks Not Only Top Links Which Dump and eWebPages shared the idea to me.

    Thanks

Ok, I won't but remember if your going to donate, then you should donate because you actually want to rather then only doing it to make you look like a good person. :)

Let me clarify something for you, right now..

    1. i did NOT take the back link that was part of the donation.
    2. i added the deep links for popotalk on my own time
    3. while adding the deep links i also provided a means for other site-sift owner to incorporate it into their directories, again, on my own time.

what exactly are you crying about?

I just wanted to let you know that you are making yourself look like an ass with this post.

And just for a side note to tack onto your ignorance, I got a call today from the 'Office of External Affairs' from a one Rosa Johnson, thanking me for my 'generous donations and time', because i donated more than just 100, you idiot.

Now take your shit to the side and go suck on your thumb.

    slashpix ,

Well, what can I say.... You definitely caught me off guard on this. Let me extend a big thank you, for the time and consideration you put into making your analysis. I'm pretty much at a loss for words atm and pretty shocked that someone would actually take the time like you did to go over things. I thank you very much for that.
