What to do with our Domain Name Portfolio

    Hi,

I work with a company called Rent My DN, LLC (www.rentmydn.com). We have a portfolio of almost 400 domain names. I was wanting to find out some feed back to help us in the right direction. Myself, I am new to the domain name business and just came into the business.

We are trying to figure out the best thing to do immediately with our domain names to start getting some money from them (at least more than parking through Sedo). Our portfolio consists of names in the real estate, adult, memory storage, professional services, and misc names. We have a few ideas but I would like to collect some feedback before we proceed.

Thanks in advance for anyone contributing their throughts.

    hello rentmydn welcome to Digitalpoint!

Are these domains for resale waiting for potential end user buyer/s? If they're for resale then it's better to park on a PPC sponsor. End-users prefer domains that didn't had any history of development or being an ex-website due to branding reasons so it is better to park them, as-is. Downside is, most of the PPC parking program discourages or worse, prohibits promotion or marketing of parked domains. You loose the opportunity of "branding" and getting extra traffic.

Planning for a long-term monetization? Then development will be the best option but that requires huge resources, a lot of work plus the $$$. Also, consider SEO friendly "quality-minisites". I prefer this route if I were you. Implement a bit of creativity + by using "tools for business" (scripts) to fasten development + adverts by way of PPC + CPM + PPS to monetize traffic. With this option, you have the freedom to promote, build your brand, choose your prefered advertisers (for monetization) and most especially, attract more traffic + the retainability of your site's visitors.

    Just my 2¢

The names are not for resale. The original plan was to rent out the domain names. That route has been questioned.

In the end we have came up with ideas, one of which is constructing 50-100 sites (say for example all real estate related in las vegas) and then having real estate companies pay for advertising. I question the amount of work and time (we do have access to plenty of scripts...) necessary to put that together immediately for profit anytime soon.

Thanks very much for your reply.

I was wondering what you exactly meant regarding seo friendly quality minisites?

Development of a website takes a lot of time, it is a gradual process, so develop the names least likely to sell first

Kind of Web2.0 Miniâ„¢ sort of thing concept.

I highly believe that a real effective SEO is through user collaboration and sharing between users. You get instant "publicity" that will result to a continuous growth of users.

The minisite shouldn't be complex. By simple architecture and combining the simple things around that are ignored nowadays, in place, would create new things that aren't seen yet.

    Hello,
You could create websites and then sell them with some PR :)
