If it's money you won't need the next few years (i call it play-money), i would suggest you do the following:
Put $2000 on the side, buy 2 websites of around $4000 each.

Make sure you buy websites that already make a nice amount of revenue. Based on your cash, each of the websites should make an average of $400 per month (assuming you buy 10x monthly revenue - it's the usual price)

So that's around $800/month of extra play-money you'll make from then on. This can be re-invested in the sites (advertising for example) or be saved for later/new projects.

Your $2000 you put aside in the beginning can always be used to advertise your 2 new sites in the beginning, if needed (ad space, text link buying, directory submissions, etc.)

With a little luck you got your $10.000 back in around 8 to 10 months + from then on you'll have 2 income producing websites that you can either keep and expand or sell for high profits.

This is how I do it 95% of time :)
In my eyes it's a good system but you can not be scared to loose money. Sometimes you loose some, sometimes you gain some, it's just life ;)
Just make sure you don't bet on 1 horse only!

You could buy some convertible bonds if you don't want to take too much risk.

You should re-invest it back into your sites and make $100,000. Then you can make a thread asking what to do with that money!

Rule #1 do not put all your eggs in one basket aka do not spend/invest 10k on one thing.

    So what should you do?

    1. Invest in the stock market - splitting the risk by investing in high risk and low risk stocks.
    2. Buy some sites - yes thats right! just buy a couple of revenue earners to help you bring in some extra revenue (even $5/day site as you can then improve/spend a little extra on advertising and double that ;) )
    3. Put some money in a spare account for a rainy day
    4. Buy a house using the 10k (majority of it) on a deposit, redevelop it and flip it :) making a nice $$ for a little work.
    5. The possibilites are endless...

Definitely , I will buy myself a nice looking car and will propose a pretty girl to be my GF, rather than investing it on more new website. You should also do that :)

"Diversification is a protection against ignorance. It makes very little sense for those who know what they're doing." -Warren Buffet

If you see one opportunity that is a solid investment, go for it. To me, $10K is a nice chunk of change, I would take it and make your dream website, There should be enough to make it and promote it well.

    1) Buy a website that makes $500-1000 per month.

    2) Use $100-200 per month salary... and hire a good worker from India/Egypt/Somewhere-where-$100/200-per-month-is-a-good-amount-of-money that can take care of promoting, marketing & developing the site.

    3) Repeat.

Notice: if you haven't bought websites before, then learn absolutely everything you can and listen to people before throwing your money away

$10,000 investment in stocks, bonds or interest rates will bring you very little. If you are lucky (I mean very lucky) you will get 10% of it by one year. Is that worth it? To me its not.

So my suggestion is spend it on something you like to do and turn it into a business. Eg: You could open some kind of shop or something.
