Hi all, I am working on a couple of domains. However, I have not yet submitted the site to Google, cause, after all at this time, there is nothing to index. My question is - a) should I put up a placeholder / sample page with keywords (or otherwise) while the site is undergoing construction. b)Also, when the site is finally launched, and I submit a brand new sitemap to Google, will that be viewed unfavourably ? c) Will having a blank placeholder have a negative impact when the site finally goes live ? (for eg., will keywords be reloaded into Google's index, ...) Thanks for your suggestions, Regards, - Nataraj.
I think putting up a sample page with your keywords will not be that much helpful. It will be a static page, your content will remain static, unless you dont have content that people will prefer to visit Google will put you deep down. Its not just about keywords, mainly its about your CONTENT. Perhaps you can try putting up a blog in one of your folders and mark the main site as under construction later when your site will be active you can inform about it. In this case it will be helpful as long as your blog is related to your main website. Upon your sitemap submission Google will reload you keywords analyze your new content etc so it will be a new start for you. It should not effect you negatively if you are targeting the rite keywords before and after the sitemap.
I would recommend not to place your super mega brand sitemap to google. Just place some good backinks and google will find you by itself. XML sitemaps never helps to crawl or to ranking high
I would put some content on your site and go online. You should also start setting some backlinks. That makes Google index your page. That makes sense although you will probably not rank well. But an important factor for Google is the domainage. And they count when they index it for the first time.
The answer is based on two words: "Sand box" All new sites are placed in Googles' Sand box for 6 ot 8 months depending on who you believe. The clock for this starts when Google indexes the home page for the first time. So if you follow everyones advise and wait 3 months for the design, then you must wait the full 6 months. We place the home page with SEO up as soon a possible. We create a Webmaster Tools account. We create an Analytic account for tracking. We create the Adsense account. We submit the site to Google's Add-URL (why, G says to). Now we start the design. We now start linkbuilding. As a section is completed, then it go on-line. Yes this freaks everyone out. But if the design take ~4 months, then it is only 2 months before we are out of the sand box. From a business standpoint: it is a 4 month head start in starting the Internet sales. No professional manager can argue with this logic. Just don't make it sloppy in appearance. But never wait, it's the sand box you must get passed. And if the sites are your personal sites, then the pressure is off. You are just in an Add/edit mode. Do it when you can.
In one of my new domain , i put a under construction page, and working with another domain, i se today , that domain take a pr. 2 without reg.
just get high PR links if you want the site to get indexed fast, and even if the site is not ready you can still give it the Title,Metas...
I've never experienced this sand box with any of my sites. They usually get indexed in weeks and rank pretty high for chosen keywords immediately. They also get to PR3 at the next update after registration. That's my experience
It's better if your site have already content before you launched it. It's useless to launched a site without content because it can't be crawled by spiders.
