I want to know what can i do what google suddenly starts sending a huge amount of traffic and the server gets down

As it is happend with me right now and now my site is out of google

I am hopefull google will get me back in next update but there is a doubt as well so im not upgrading the server

Well the question i want to ask is what can i do in this time when i have ordered a new server ( mostly takes 24 -48 Hours) so that google dont penalize should i suspend the site or what >>??

why do you think google would penalize you?
You're site is down & hopefully it'll be up and running... so whats the problem?

If you're resolving the issue by buying a new server then just let it play out. There's no point worrying about hypothetical problems especially ones you can't control.

You can have a backup solution online for next time something bad happens.
Maybe a small VPS or something that is able to handle the site. Maybe put online just the pages that get hit by people coming from google until stuff is fixed.

My PR 4 website went down for 2 days because of hosting getting affected due to a virus attack. But I haven't noticed any significant drop in my traffic after it came back online. Also, if you keep getting long downtimes regularly (like 3-4 days), it's advisable to keep a back-up of your domain on a second hosting as well, so as soon as one hosting is down, you can quickly change nameservers to point to the other one.

Did your server crash or was it too much bandwith?

Yea, I would love the problem of too much traffic. That happened when I switched servers on a domain and forgot to up the bandwith on that account, went on a vacation, and found out the site was not showing for two days. Google did not punish me, as all the traffic was still there.
A slide-show I had in the sidebar of the wordpress theme was killing my bandwith.

You might include a few details on the technology of the site. Is the page being hit a dynamic page ? Wordpress ? Joomla ?

For a huge surge in traffic, you might consider making the page that's being hit static html, at least temporarily.

use .htaccess and redirect bad traffic away from your host.
Maybe even go for country, is one country not usefull ? redirect em until you can handle the load

try to get back ur site up so u will not lose ur rank. However if ur site will get down for months then surely u will lose rank.

hehe it happened with my sites two times but nothing bad happen with my web.

Note: or change ur NS record so ppl will redirect towards ur new site .

Are you using shared hosting or a dedicated server? Your site should never go down because of too much traffic.

You should look up for backup solutions which can take backup of your sites. Now the problem is unavoidable so let it go and face it.

You can get a site back up online in a matter of hours...

I don't think Google will penalize you...

Replace your index page with a simpler one with no images, just text.
It shouldn't have any trouble staying up.

You could also block some countries (IP Ranges) with htaccess
