So, what do you do when a dirty rotten scoundrel won't pay? Let it go? Is there a dollar amount to reach after which you'll just not take it any more?

I suppose it would make a difference if the marketer that you're an affiliate for is in a different country and is not subject to the laws of your country -- let alone accessible to service of process.

I guess the best thing that I've learned from this is to only promote products through a third-party affiliate program.

Yes, work with a top network and develop relationships with top affiliate managers/OPM's.

    Agreed!

Research on Google or any search engine or ask any experienced marketer or publisher for a review about that network then apply for it!

I have expirienced the same with NetAffiliation, they take loads of time to pay and confirm earnings.
Best thing to do is to spread the word about their bad payment politics. Thats what i have done and some months later i got an email from the affiliate telling me that everithing will be paid, the actually paid part of the earning, still waiting for the remain amount of money the own me.
