I have a blog that gets about 500 unique visitors daily - it is almost ad free and today I decided to try out text-link-ads.com and got little stuck with their service and couldn't find help anywhere - hopefully someone here has some experience with them and can help me out! After registering and giving them the domain name of my website they made some kind of a 1 second automated checkup and said that my blog was OK-d for their service and asked my to download their plugin (for my wordpress blog). After installing and activating it on my blog I got an email from them saying: Ad Script Successfully Installed Thank you for successfully setting up the ad script to run for websitename. Please note that it is normal for this to appear hidden during the first few days so please do not remove the ad script! My question is - What should I do next? After installing their plugin it doesnt show up anywhere in my wordpress admin area (except under installed plugins) nor on the website itself. I searched around and found some people saying in forums that the ads will only appear after someone has bought an ad from you. But if someone buys an ad - where on my website will it be shown? I find it rather strange that there were no instrucions for that on text link ads website. I assumed that I would need to define a place where the ads are shown. All they asked me to do was to provide them with a random name that will also used as the wordpress plugin name. Google doesnt like selling and buying links and when using a random plugin name Google can't detect that you are using the textlink ads program. Since text link ads didn't give me any information about what to do next I searched around their website and found a different wordpress plugin - one that uses widgets and had instructions that instead of giving the plugin a random name (like the one I talked about in the previous paragraph) you should name this plugin something like "Featured Sites", "Recommended" or etc - since this will also be the name under what the ads will show up under. Since this plugin uses widgets it is also clear for me how and where the ads would show up - but this is not the plugin that text link ads asked me to download in the first place. It also has a different size when compared to the first one. I am afraid that when some ads will eventually show up on somewhere on my website (where?) it will show up under the totally random name I gave to the plugin that I downloaded and installed in the first place. Should I install the second plugin or just wait a few days and see what happens? Maybe the plugin that I installed first will show up somewhere in a few days? I also understand that you will not be able to say how much money you would like for an ad but text link ads will come up with a price on their own. However when I went through their catalog of other websites that were selling their ads they all had descriptions what the websites are about - text link ads has not given me an option to write such a description. I am worried that something is wrong or that there is something that I yet need to do! I would appreciate if anyone who has gone through the trouble of installing text-link-ads.com on their website let me know if I am on the right track and how the installation process went for them. Otherwise I'll just stay confuced
>>But if someone buys an ad - where on my website will it be shown? Note : Inlinks is the new product launched by text-link-ads specifically for bloggers. See http://www.deepjiveinterests.com/20...-inlinkscom-hopes-to-fly-under-googles-radar/ and Darren Rowse post http://www.problogger.net/archives/2008/11/20/inlinks-textlinkads-20/ This is how it works: 1. You install the wordpress plugin. 2. Someone buys a link on your site through text-link-ads. 3. You get an email from text-link-ads saying you have links to approve. (This depends on configuration preferences. I configured my text-link-ads account so that I am always asked to approve links. This is so I can disallow links that do not suit my website ). 3. You log on to text-link-ads.com and see the link to be sold, what page it will be on your site, and where that link will point to on the buyers site. 4. You approve the ad on text-link-ads.com 5.After some time (not immediately), the ad shows up on your site. 6. You get a monthly email from Text-link-ads telling you how much you have earned. They send you the money by paypal. Do remember to update your wordpress text-link-ads plugin from time to time especially as new versions of wordpress are released. If for any reason, the text-link-ads spider is unable to crawl your site, they will send you an email to let you know. I think their spider crawls your site from time to time to ensure their are no problems with the links. I just use the normal plugin from the text-link-ads site and that works just fine.
