I always had this dream to start a particuler website plan that I had. It was unique to the world and was sure to be a real hit. I let the idea go because it would take my whole life and now 2 years later I own a retail store which takes all of my time but just is not as adventurous as this special online business venture would've been. Today I just saw that now the idea has been pretty much 30% taken because this new site that I won't mention has been using this idea. I sit here in the retail store thinking to myself, jeez. why didn't I do that!
it's only 30% taken.... how profitable do you think your idea would be if it was 100% in motion? If this site is surviving on only 30% capacity of what you had dreamed, would it be worth it to give your idea a shot and see what can happen? When you say it would take your whole life does that mean it would take up all of your time and you wouldn't be able to operate your retail store? Cause if you have to give that up then that is a big risk and it's only up to you to decide because nobody knows what your "idea" is so we can't really help or give any practical advice.
Hi there! that is just the thing, right? in life, there's a lot of decisions that would come... and we just simply have to decide which one is it that we would do. usually, people are paralyzed by fear and doubts, personally, same with me.. of course, that is normal (we are not supergirl or superman, i think even they got scared a bit too before) anyways, this is what i just wanted to say, we won't know what will happen unless we give it try, isn't it? so, why don't we just go ahead and try and then see what happens? i personally think that this works better, because you won't live wondering and asking yourself "what if..?" (winks) ~such a serious thought here but kinda true in more ways
Well, I hope you're not feeling too bad. Still you could find some other similarly good idea and implement it, or use your previous idea with a tweak that could make your website successful. There's many possibilities yet.
I can understand where you're coming from. It's called procrastination. People have written books on the subject and I too have suffered from it, so you're not alone. I recommend picking up a good book, such as Procrastination: Why You Do It, What To Do About It by Jane Burka or just buy an audio version and listen to it. Believe me, it helps. You'll find that if you just put a little effort into it and start managing your time effectively, you'll begin to get a lot of what you want or wanted to do done. Also, even if someone else has already seen the idea come to life, there's no need to despair. In fact, that should be more of a reason for you to consider getting yours out into the open as well. Think to yourself, I know I can do this better and just do it. The only thing that's stopping you from doing it is... you.
That's life, opportunities come and go, and life moves on...just ask any single mother what she really wanted to do in life and most will say _______ (bulk wont consider raising kids under hardship as a factor in their original plans). Find inspiration and follow your dreams...
That may not be a bad thing - it just goes to prove you had an idea that worked (I assume by what you say, the site is doing well). All niches have competition - so if you still have the desire and the time, you can actually still get your site up and running. I'd be worried going into a niche where the competition was zero (it usually means there isn't a market there) Good luck
The time we spend with "what if..." is actually time we could spend on doing what it is we want to do. I can understand that you are obviously a busy person and so finding time to follow your dreams is hard. But when I was trying to get my start as a writer, and was raising six kids at the same time, I used to get out of bed earlier and go to bed later at night so that I could have that "ME" time to follow my dreams. Your dream hasn't gone; you can still take action on it and make your dream idea come true for you - a spot of competition never did anyone any harm and if you still carry the passion for your dream then I for one know that you can succeed. Best wishes lisa
I noticed that you've mentioned your location as Manitoba, Canada. The site you're referring to, does it belong to someone in your area or for that matter, is it based out of Canada? If not, this gives just gives you an opportunity to target your local community if not the whole of Canada. Like I said before, we can't give up our ideas just because someone else got there first. If we followed that logic, we'd probably be stuck with just one brand to choose from in every walk of life. The whole idea behind most businesses is that I can do this better than thou. So give it a shot. All you need to do is find the time, and believe me there's plenty of that if we just manage time more effectively.
Dude if it's only 30% taken/stolen then your idea still has a FIGHTING chance! Put a computer/laptop with Internet access in your retail store & when you're not busy start making & developing your website, its name, and its idea, then PROMOTE and do SEO to get the word out! Don't let this other site take your idea and you over! You still have a chance & if it's truly unique I will guarantee you myself that'll be successful. Good luck to you! Please, take my advice.
How profitable. Probably like pokers stars/ digitalpoint / twitter / ebay etc. There's no doubt that it would've been a large success but its really too late now. I have the store, I'm just whining about how it could've been. Nope, the site is for anyone in the world pretty much, but it would start out in one city. Its not that. I've made like 10 great site idea's and really thought out of how they could be done but the question is which one because you cannot choose them all. I went into business with this retail store. I can't do both. The site would take an investment of at least $7,000 and a team of 5, which isn't really the problem. The problem is in life you can't do everything. Think of this. Imagine that facebook and twitter didn't exist and then the person who creates twitter thinks to himself/herself in a few months. Damn, it would've been much more enjoying to start my "facebook" idea, but I just can't let go of this twitter. This is where I'm at(at a lower level of course)
Its never too late to pursue it, you can use the money you made from your store to make it, and work on it on the side.
Think of all the connections you made by owning a retail store, then think how you could use those connections to jump start a part time venture. After I worked in retail I took that experience and I went onto creating two small businesses which both did rather well. I now use all that experience of what I learned in retail and as a business owner and apply it to my website. I think the bottom line is never regret anything in life and there is no limit to what you can still achieve especially now that you have the know how of what it takes to run a business.
make your dream become a reality to pursue the online world, because all your wishes will be achieved if your intention firmly in your strong stance to create new ideas and new
been there, done that. what i have learned is when i have an idea i should start working on it now..not later, not tomorrow, not when i have money but NOW.
