What to check when buying a domain name?

    Hello,

I'm planning to buy a domain from a DP member. But this will be my first time buying a domain from someone else.

Can anyone please tell me what I should be careful about?

How can I understand the domain is stolen or not?

How should be the transfer (push?) made?

Is it a problem if the domain was dropped?

    Any help greatly appreciated,

    Regards,

"Grunt" is his user level. You should address him "Seolight"

Siddharth Mehta, there are plenty of them.
    I usually buy via Godaddy.

What will you must do? I guess tips below can help:
    1. check its registrar. Whois the domain
    2. if you buy a domain because its pagerank, go ahead to the given link above. CHeck whether the PR is valid or not
    3. If the member reputation is questionable, try to check his iTrader or post history. If you have doubt on him, ask hi to post something using the domain.
    4. You can ask seller where the domain bought. Create an account if you won the domain. Dont worry its free.
    5. You can ask seller on the thread his open (if he does). Avoid dealing with someone you can't find his trace.

Hi. If you are a raider with more than 400 posts, shouldn't you be telling US what to watch out for?

Anyway - I know only about pushes with godaddy and name. These two will transfer domains for free (free push) if the buyer has an account or opens a new free account at the same registrar. Otherwise, there may be fees.

People make mistakes when they think they know everything ;)

There's no harm in taking advice about a form of trade where you have little experience.

What problems can occur if I host my site (with the new domain) on hostgator but registar the domain on godaddy?

    Thanks for the tip though.

There is nothing wrong with having your domain registered with a domain registrar like godaddy and hosting the domain with a web hosting company. All you have to do is change your nameservers in your domain registrar to the nameservers of you web host.

Most deadly errors arise from obsolete assumptions ;)

I haven't heard of any problems with having a domain registered on godaddy and hosted on hostgator.

Can anyone please tell me what I should be careful about?
The domain history such as got banned or not.

How can I understand the domain is stolen or not?
Check the whois of the domain and cross check with the seller identity.

How should be the transfer (push?) made?
The seller will take care of it.

Is it a problem if the domain was dropped?
Its not a problem as long as you have solid content to back it up.
