What to charge for exclusive ads

    Hi,

I'd like to know what a fair price is for exclusive advertising. The site has only been up for 2 months, but already has PR3, and ranks between 5 and 11 on google (seems to change daily). The site is for cancer patients, and I have an online pharmacy interested in advertising. What would a fair price be if I agree to only advertise their products?

The simple answer: whatever people are prepared to pay :p

It very much depends on your traffic. A PR3 isn't worth that much, but if you have plenty of people visiting, it'll be worth more.

Personal experience tells me that exclusive ad space is usually pricy, but depends largely on site category, content, and traffic. From the view of the Pharmaceutical company trying to purchase ad space on a Medical related site... This is a perfect place for them to be, so supply and demand principal should help you out there. Since I'm not in the medical field I can't give you any specific price ranges. Best way to narrow down your price ranges to see competitors rates if they have them posted on their website, if they don't contact them as if you were an advertiser.

Thanks for the advice. I lost the advertiser due to an issue I hadn't seen coming. :( I just found out that most of my traffic is coming from porn sites because my blog address had the word adult in it - we have to distinguish between adult and child patients because the issues are so different. I'm a newbie at this and hadn't thought of that. A pharmacy just isn't interested in porn traffic. I've renamed the folder that the blog is in to stop them visiting. Oh well live and learn.

lol, that's an embarassing mistake. Well, maybe instead of setting a price, auction the advertising somewhere such as in the Buy, Sell or Trade forum. That way you can see what the maximum someone will pay to advertise on your website. Be sure to give all your statistics though such as traffic, page ranking, what kind of visitors you get, and what keywords are ranked high in.

Ooooh. Live and learn. That is a great story and thank you for sharing it. My own tuppence worth is to say when you are set up to sell advertising again, you go to the respected companies in your field, maybe three of them and offer them a killer deal. Take it on the chin and get them on your site even if you are getting nothing but a recipricol in return.

When the competition sees those guys on your site they will fall over themselves to be there too. Your negotiations will be made much easier by having the heavies on your site already.
